How To Green Your Apartment

It is more important than ever to be environmentally conscious nowadays so why not start by keeping our apartments green?

Use An Eco friendly Laundry Detergent
Most people do laundry weekly, so try to be selective with the detergent that you’re using. Make sure it’s all natural and bio-degradable so that it won’t harm you your family or the environment.

Use Energy Efficient Appliances
You can start by using CFL light bulbs. They consume less electricity and still provide perfect lighting for your home. These have really gone down in price, and are found in most stores now. Get some for every room in your home.

Conserve Water
Clean water is important for human survival and it requires plenty of natural resources and electricity to process. So turn off the water when it’s not in use (i.e. use a large bin filled with water when doing dishes) and use rainwater for the dehydrating your plants.

Conserve Electricity

Avoid depending on the dryer to dry your clothes. You can hang them to dry instead, especially now that it’s starting to warm up.

These small changes are essential and can produce great results if everyone does their part.

Check out some of these great eco-friendly businesses including PaperCulture for eco baby cards, Organic Bouquet for eco flowers/gifts, VivaTerra for eco furniture, HostPapa for green web hosting, and HessNatur for Natural eco-fashion.

A couple other tips to piggy back off of Missy:

If you do wish to use a clothes dryer, try eco-friendly dryer balls. They look like rolled up plastic sonic the hedgehogs, but they help “separate” your clothes while the dryer spins, making the clothes dry faster and letting you use less energy. If you like the scent of a dyer sheet, I recommend buying the eco-friendly kind or getting a pack of “dryer packets” that contain all natural scents and plants to soften and scent your clothes without the chemicals.
