Watering plants or crops in this case can pose some issues, including that of water wastage which some folks may have a hard time taking control off. However, a new device called FLOW-AID may yet help address that issue, designed to alert farmers when and how much water they would need to make sure that their crops are healthy and prim.
The said system was developed by group of 11 European companies and research institutes. It is actually part of a funded Innovation Seeds project where multiple devices are installed at key locations on a farmer’s field.
Each of them has an incorporated above-ground control communication unit while a smartphone allows the farmer to access the network via the Internet so that they can be able to check the moisture and nutrient levels of their soil.
It’s estimated that the system could lead to a reduction in fertilizer use of up to 30 percent.
