You may have probably heard about this issue regarding the safety of helmets recently in the NFL, an issue which concerns the safety of players. Well, maybe someday they can consider using an alternative material like wood.
Coyle is a wooden company that comes from modest beginnings, specializing in wooden helmets over in Oregon. The helmets make use of a wooden shell which is complimented by a cork-based cushioning which should stir up some interest among consumers and perhaps some other helmet-making companies.
According to the company’s website, most of the wood used is “salvaged from trees that would otherwise be destined for fuel chips, firewood, other artisan projects or natural decay in the forest.” They even get “end pieces” of Douglas Fir, which are a byproduct of milling wood for the construction industry.
