Can nuclear power be eco friendly?

There is a issue developing in Calvert County, Md. Where Unistar Nuclear, a collaboration between Constellation Energy and French company Areva hope to build a new plant at the Calvert Cliffs plant in Lusby.

Can nuclear power be eco friendly?

Naturally there are many groups dead against the building of any new nuclear plants, which is only reasonable as there is a fear of an accident like the ones at Chernobyl and Three Mile Island. Yet since those events safety has been the utmost priority in this industry and there have been no similar accidents.

One thing in favor of nuclear power is that the technology has advanced a long way, making an accident less likely, however there is the treat from terrorism these days, which is totally out of the hands of technology and any safety measures that are in place.

This is a serious issue and should not be taken lightly.
