It looks like Google isn’t satisfied just yet as far as clean energy use is concerned. Already powering 34% of their operations on clean energy, all that may yet change with reports that Google has added an additional 240 megawatts of clean energy from Happy Hereford Wind Farm of Amarillo, Texas.
This means that Google’s clean energy reliance will be jacked up to 570 megawatts, large enough to power up to 170,000 homes over in the U.S.
After purchasing the renewable energy, the company will retire the renewable energy credits (RECs) and sell the energy itself to the wholesale market. Any additional RECs produced under the agreement can also be used to reduce their carbon footprint elsewhere.
