While we all know that various means of recharging LED lights have been revealed, here is a new technology that may yet capture consumer interest. Rather than solar or kinetic energy, LEDs may soon be powered using sound.
The new technology was discovered by the Hirose-Tanikawa Group from the University of Tokyo. The whole thing makes use of an off-shelf speaker which is responsible for delivering ultrasonic sound waves that are in turn converted into power through a special circuit board.
The main advantage to using sound instead of electromagnetic waves for wireless power is that you can easily hear where the power source originates and is being sent. The signal is also easy to bounce and reroute, interrupt and even broaden, which could improve technologies like RFID.
