Using Old Wood for Biomass Power

by Brian Yalung on Monday, November 17th, 2008

While we may not know it, old wood or materials that are often discarded and laid to waste in the usual junk piles can really be of use if placed in the right way of using it. Biomass power has been gaining attention and for the boilers to function properly, the use of waste wood is sufficient.

This is a revolution that is being used in Northwest United States, a region filled with forest-rich trees. So in this time of growing demand for power, the growing popularity of Biomass power is indeed a good alternative and also putting waste wood to good use.

Biomass boilers are considered eco-friendly as they encourage the use of wood that would otherwise be burned or dumped off at the landfill, including the large amounts of branches and brush leftover after an area is logged, as well as bark and the remnants of demolished houses. Also, biomass boilers are said to save a lot of money, though they require more attention to operate than their natural gas cousins.
