Polar Bear Rug
If there is one iconic vision of climate change, it has to be the melting ice flow and the plight of the polar bear. This rug appears to be the ocean with a small piece of white on, but upon closer inspection, it suddenly becomes clear that the small speck is a polar bear trapped on a shrinking iceberg.
The rug is the idea of NEL artists Ricardo Casas, Alejandro Castro, Héctor Esrawe, Emiliano Godoy and Cecilia León de la Barra. Their vision is to demonstrate how fragile our world is, when something as powerful as a polar bear can become weak and helpless at the hands of climate change.
