Organic Authority has an excellent article from a few months ago, where they discuss 9 “tricks” to be healthier….that are available to us all for free.
They mention the following on their list:
- A Daily Walk
- Eating in Moderation
- Stretching (a/k/a Yoga)
- Plan Your Grocery Trips
- Maintain A Clean Home
- Try A Fitness DVD at home (for free from your local library)
- Drink Plenty of Water
- Take An Extracurricular Class
- Begin a Health Diary of Sorts (to track progress and effort)
We like this list and agree with most of what’s on it. It’s a solid list with good tips and advice, however we feel one crucial tip is missing. And one that we find continuously missing from lists similar to this.
That is the missing tip that this and many “health” oriented lists like this do not include. And we are not sure why. We have come across numerous reports and statistics on how lack of companionship or simply put – loneliness – yields a series of health issues. Especially for those over the age of 35 and beyond. As we get older, making and or maintaining friendships becomes a real issue. And not one easily solved.
Taking a walk, eating properly, taking a class is all well and good – yes! and has proven to be a way to meet others. However again sometimes the simple acknowledgement and mention of the issue of loneliness is one that does not get its just due and we need to see it noted more in the media. (the article above alone yielded 322 comments, this is saying something)
Bottom line is that it’s hard to be healthy, if you’re lonely – because the two do not go hand in hand. Companionship and friendship lead to a healthier and more fulfilling life. Report after report confirms this as well.
So I for one, will do my part to mention it as often as possible here and elsewhere. And provide tips and advice on how to combat and or deal with this prevalent and toxic health problem.
How about you? How many friends, relatives, co workers and or neighbors do you know who suffer from this affliction and do not know how to cope or need help with it? Tell us below in the comment area and we will feature some of the responses in a follow up post.
