Here is some good news to hopefully perk us up as far as oil is concerned. Alaska Airlines reportedly completed a 75 passenger flight which used about a 20% biofuel blend made up of reclaimed cooking oil.
Fuel came from SkyNRG which was a mix of petroleum-based fuel. The biofuel can be mixed with petroleum-based fuel and transported in pipelines, a big breakthrough considering the fuel issues we are suffering from now. Airlines are not spared from the issue where electric or battery power seems unviable at this point.
Plus, as suppliers further work on the biofuel blend, it is possible that higher ratios of the cooking oil to petroleum fuel could be refined. The higher the ratio of cooking oil, the more carbon neutral airline flights could become, further advancing the “greening” of America’s skies.
