The Space That Transportation Uses

In this image, you can see three interpretations of what it takes to get the same amount of people into town for work, shopping or for whatever reason they would need to travel. They have chosen three modes of travel, car, bus and cycle, this picture says it all.

 

 

It is clear that the car takes up more space, not only on the roads, but parking space too. However, that image is slightly deceptive because it illustrates one person per car, whereas many people possibly around twenty per cent actually car share. It is still a good example and should use to more to show the impact of the car on society.
