Toyota Prius catches on fire
It is definitely not a good advert for Toyota as one of their retro fitted cars, this is where other companies take a factory fitted car and change it into something else. The general idea is to fit a plug in module into the hybrid car. Toyota has plans for this but it is going to be a few years away.
However there are those who believe that they can do it faster and so retro fit their own units into the car, the Cooperative Research Network (CRN) has reported that a Prius owned and retro fitted by the Central Electric Power Cooperative (CEPC) had a car which exploded. Clearly a little work is needed there!

Not sure who is doing the reporting here but keep in mind, TOYOTA had nothing to do with the conversion of this vehicle to a plug-in. We have a million Prius on the road with no such issues and are committed to invest the necessary time and research into Lithium-ion battery technology to make sure when we bring our Prius plug-in to market it is right and ready.
