Donate Your Used Car for A Sick Kid

Everyone is so tied up with the Cash for Clunkers deal that they don’t even realize other ways to get some relief for their financial needs. Apparently here is one, a charitable act that can help you out in tax deductions. That and of course you are helping a sick child with the old car you always wanted to dispose.

The foundation is called the Songs of Love Foundation with their CARS (Children Are Receiving Songs) program. Dedicating the cause to help sick children, the foundation accepts donated cars, trucks, recreational vehicles and boats, which are then sold to generate proceeds for its mission of music.

There is no need for the donor to take the car anywhere as the foundation comes and picks up the vehicle at the donor’s location, free of charge. A receipt is given for tax deduction purposes which should be a consolation if you talk about getting something out of it.

We have been waiting for some time for the release of the eco friendly film “The Age of Stupid” and the films premiere that was held on Sunday has broken a world record by being transmitted to sixty four other theatres around the UK.

The film is set in 2055 and follows an old man played by Pete Poslethwaite as he looks back over video footage as to what cause global warming, the results of which show that it was us who just allowed the world to die. This film only cost around $700,000 to make, the money was raised through donations.

London Follows San Francisco On Gardens

With London hosting the next Olympic Games in 2012, the last thing that the authorities want is for London to look a mess, yes the sports arenas will be hi-tech, but the surrounding areas need some work too. San Francisco has an initiative to increase the amount of garden space and London is planning to follow by creating 2012 new garden spaces in time for the Olympics.

The project is looking for open spaces that can be rejuvenated; these can be anywhere industrial, commercial or residential. The project, which will be known, as Capital Growth and they will provide all that is necessary to get this going.

What areas are they looking for?

Housing estates

Hospitals, mental health trusts and care homes

Universities and colleges

Prisons and young offender’s institutions

Schools

Utility land managed by the water board and railway authorities

British Waterways land

Flat roofs

Estates (e.g. National Trust, Church estate, agricultural college land)

Farms and agricultural holdings

Greenhouses or other facilities that have fallen out of use

Parks and community gardens

Local authority green spaces throughout the borough

Farmers wanting to give over some of their land for community benefit

Private owners – large and small – turning over land for food growing and community benefit

You would think that these days, people would be staying away from credit and payment cards. Some people have just become petrified as far as using them since improper accumulation of debt can lead to a financial suicide.

But with this green payment cards offered by American Express and U.S. Bank, the card is more than just a financial luxury. For each gift card purchased, Macerich will donate $0.70 of the $2.95 purchase fee to American Forests, with Macerich contributing at least $100,000 to the organization.

Now for a worthy cause, that could be a good deal. At least these payment cards that aim to help rather than hurt our planet.

The idea of an eco nightclub would initially sound like a place that would be in the open countryside away from everyone else and with limited facilities, a bit a music festival!

But this club called Surya is nothing like that it is in fact a real nightclub, but with a difference. Walkers and cyclists get in for free and as for the dance floor, well this is something completely different for it has been designed to generate its own electricity when people move on it. To complete the scheme there is a solar energy system and wind turbine with excess electricity being donated to the neighbourhood.

The whole month may, people in the UK will be able to recycle their old shoes. Shoes are one of the worst items of clothing to recycle as many places will not take them to sell on for one reason or another. But this idea from Terra Plana is simply fantastic.

Just take an old or unwanted pair of shoes into the participating branches, it makes not difference what the make or design is and you will get a £10 ($20) discount, it doesn’t get better than that, this is what the Terra Plana Shoe Amnesty is all about.

In the UK alone, over 330 million pairs of new shoes are purchased each year with a similar amount going to landfill or the incinerator.

In total, 25.5 million tones of household waste is collected each year in the UK, just less than 27% of this is recycled or composted.

UK recycling currently saves between 10 – 15 million tones of greenhouse gases each year, this is equivalent to taking 3.5 million cars off the road.
