Can coffee be eco friendly?

Initially you would have thought that the basic cup of coffee would not be very eco friendly, but it really depends on your point of view. With over fifty per cent of Americans enjoying a daily cup of coffee that works out at a lot of coffee, power and water, but with no viable alternative things could be much worse.

However normal instant coffee would have been grown in factory style farming by huge companies this may not be too eco friendly, but there are certain labels to look out for which will show you that the product is in fact more eco friendly than the regular brands.

Coffee labels explained:

Fair Trade Certified: Sponsored by TransFair USA

Certified Organic: Coffee with this label has been grown free of harmful pesticides

Shade Grown: This indicates that the coffee was grown under the rainforest canopy

Rainforest Alliance Certified: Grown using low or no pesticides and workers treated fairly

Triple Certified Coffee: The best choice is coffee that is organic

Green Mom Bloggers and Their Influence

The blog-o-sphere has enabled mom bloggers to take their causes to the web, and in turn to the masses. There are a slew of mom bloggers on the net, and their influence is growing ever more powerful.

A social media expert, Max Gladwell, has profiled mom bloggers in a recent post, and imparts that one has even taken her blog to activist heights. AllergyKids.com is the brainchild of Robyn O Brien, and her message is loud and clear, to expose corporate giants that are aiding in the spread of serious allergy conditions. Below is what Max has to say on the matter and why Robin’s started her web-blog crusade.

She did some research and unearthed startling evidence that pointed to neglect and outright conspiracy on the parts of the U.S. government and food industry with regard to “the recent introduction and engineering of allergens, proteins, food additives and dyes into our food supply.”

He goes on to state in his article, that Robin O Brien, has even managed to grab the attention of media giants like CNN, The New York Times, CBS, and even celeb crime fighter, Erin Brockovich herself.

Mom bloggers have alot to say and their number one concern, is children. With new media tools like blogs and social media such as Twitter, mom bloggers have a massive platform and reach. They will voice their opinion, they will their friends (a/k/a network), and they will expose you…..RAW.

“Don’t mess with mom”, has taken on a whole new meaning! Check out the article for more green mom blogger profiles, including Green Mom Finds and EcoChildsPlay.

$12 - $15 Per Gallon Of Gas Possible Says CNBC

I just read the scariest post evah, lawyer guy Al Nye writes in his blog, that a chief energy advisor mentions that the gas prices we are seeing today of $4- $5 per gallon of gas, are in the near future gonna be known as “the good ole days”.

photos - flickr

$12 to $15 per gallon of gas. Those are insane numbers, and all heck is going to break loose, if gallon prices went up that high. I shudder to think what will happen to the world as we know it. I hate to get all dramatic, but just think about it for a moment. It would cost most Americans like $200 bucks a week to fill up. That is simply not possible for many. I envision mass transit also being affected, as those who cant afford gas, would have to take buses and trains to get to and from work, etc.

Bike sales would go up, which is a positive. (for biker sellers) Hey, entreprenuer types, there is a fledging business idea for you. Start a bike business. Not the electric bike kind, just the regular old-fashioned human powered type bicycles.

Check out the video and read the complete story at CNBC.

Michael Vick in the PETA Doghouse

Michael Vick, the football star who was arrested, tried, and convicted for dogfighting, is now in the doghouse with PETA.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

PETA has released an e-card with Vick holding a ball and chain with a jail background, and we couldnt think of a more fitting background for the ex-football player. Michael Vick was recently sentenced to 23 months in jail for his dog crimes, and is or was in all sorts of trouble with the NFL.

Why did Vick choose to support, fund, and organize a dogfighting operation we will never know or fully understand, but atleast he was caught and will serve time for his bad choices.

PETA no stranger to controversy, sticks it to him, like only PETA can.
