Sanyo and Volkswagen Team up for Rechargeable Car Batteries

Sanyo

Hybrid vehicles may not yet be that spread all over the world and one thing that most consumers are wary about is the matter of power resources from batteries that take the place of fuel. While it is apparent that these batteries can only go a couple of miles depending on the capacity charged on them, it is apparent that reliable lithium-ion batteries must be provided to give future hybrid car owners something to be happy about.

Volkswagen

With the partnership of Sanyo and Volkswagen, not only are they providing alternatives but a safe solution to the people who doubt the ability of hybrid cars today. With their efforts, people are sure to have a different perspective on having rechargeable batteries for their chosen hybrid vehicle.

Sanyo and Volkswagen have worked together in the past in battery development. The Japanese company has also supplied nickel-metal hydride batteries to Ford Motor Co. and Honda Motor Co.

Automakers are stepping up their focus on lithium-ion batteries amid increasingly interest in fuel-efficient vehicles at a time of soaring petrol prices.

Lithium-ion batteries are smaller and lighter than the nickel-metal hydride batteries now used in hybrid and electric cars.

Florida Gulf Coast University building the largest college \"solar farm\" of 16 acres!

How much land is 16 acres? You could probably easily fit about 10 small houses in an acre so 16 acres is about the size of 1,600 small houses or 64 749.7028 meter squared for those of you in international countries.

Florida Gulf Coast University, a college opened in 1997 with a focus on the environment, was given $8.5 million by politicians to start a big solar farm of 16 acres on its campus.

Wind Up Shaver

Like many battery powered things, there is always the risk that at the very moment that you need it the most, the battery is going to be flat or almost flat. This can be a very disappointing thing, especially with something like this shaver called the Wind N Go Freedom Shaver.

Wind Up Shaver

As it is a wind up device, the battery s always going to be ready for that nice clean cut shave, with no hassle of charging through a power socket? With all the inconvenience that is involved with that, but at just $46 this shaver would appear to be very good value, and remember there is no need for batteries or charging.

Dickinson College Constructs Eco-Friendly Building

Putting up new buildings is only normal in most colleges and universities today and apparently much of this is because they are expanding their curriculum. With that in mind, there is no better way to promote and lead by example at how schools now employ the eco-friendly practices when it comes to going green in campus.

The $35.4 million project includes a lighting system with sensors that will dim lights when it is bright outside and shut off the lights when there is no one in the room.

The building will also have a “green roof” in which a rubber mat is placed on the roof with protective layers on top of it with a layer of dirt and seeds. The seeds will grow into flowers, turning the roof into a garden, notably with flowers of Dickinson’s school colors - red and white

4 Random Ideas To Green Your Business

Whether you run a restaurant or a dry cleaner, there are things you can do to lower your carbon footprint. It all starts by taking an assessment of your enterprise and looking around at your various departments. You can do a complete overhaul, or you can start small and build from there.

Educate yourself on green issues and research possible solutions and providers. When you go green it imparts a message of sustainability that will grab the interest of todays savvy consumers. It isn’t enough anymore to recycle and call yourself eco friendly. It will take more than that, but keep in mind it should not turn into a competition of who is greener. The mission of becoming more socially aware and responsible should more or less align with your overall company goals and mission.

Let’s take a look below at 4 Random Ideas To Green Your Business.

The 3 R’s (Recycle Reduce Reuse) - What are you recycling? Are there more things that can be recycled at your company? PC equipment is a big e-waste issue today as most landfills are brimming with discarded computer units, monitors, printers, scanners, etc. It may be costly to find a proper solution and provider, but you will reap rewards when you let your current and prospective customers know, that you are different and you care enough about our planet to discard properly and safeguard our future.

Resource: Earth 911

Save Money and Conserve, Too - Again all it takes is for you to take a good look around and see where, what, and how you can conserve more. Take a look at something as simple as the ink in your office printers. The ink can be refilled at Cartridge World, versus buying brand new each time. This method is two-fold in that it conserves and will save you money, too. The ink for my small home office printer brand new costs about $25, but to refill at Cartridge World, it sets me back all of $13.

Use Energy Efficient Products - More and more major manufacturers are creating energy efficient products. Look for the EPA’s label titled “Energy Star” which certifies the item as meeting standards for energy efficiency.

Enlist a Consultant - If your wanting to go big, and perform a complete overhaul of your operations, your best bet is to seek the services of a consultant. Find an architect or interior designer that specialize in green design and/ or green renovation. If you’re wanting to green the outdoors part of your company, seek the services of a professional eco friendly landscaper.

Stay tuned for my next article, as i will cover More Random Ideas to Green Your Business including: Green Your Site or Blog, Educate Your Employees on Green Issues, and Have a Green Giveaway or Contest.

As i stated earlier, there are many strategies to green your business, these 7 are but a few random ideas to get you going, and to ignite additional ideas.

Please share below your thoughts and ideas on how you have managed to green your business, and the results.

The largest tidal power system

A British company has won the contract to build the world largest tidal power scheme in south Korea, costing around £500 million the system will make use of the fast flowing tides that will run through the filed of three hundred 60ft tall underwater turbines, which have been fixed to the sea bed.

tidal energy

These turbines are simply dropped into place on the sea bed, which will take them well away from any shipping that use the area. The British company involved is Lunar Energy, they have partnered with the Korean company Midland Power Company. Once this project is completed sometime around 2015, there will be enough power produced to power up around 200,000 homes.

The solar powered alarm clock

Buy this for the person who has trouble getting up in the mornings and they will never have a decent excuse for being late for work ever again. The solar powered alarm clock is actually one of the first products to have been awarded the Blue Angel environment label; this is an internationally recognised award.

solar alarm

This clock is so cool that even if there was no sun, the rechargeable battery will last over a year. So this clock has it all covered. Even all of those other excuses, like the seasonal time changes and the clock was slow or fast, these do not apply with this clock as it is updated via radio control, so the time is always the right time.

You get an alarm and snooze button too; you just cannot go wrong with this clock.

DIY Solar Panels

This is not your ordinary DIY job; these panels are made from discarded and broken solar panels that can be found down at the tip or any other place that may take trash. But what the people who have thrown these away do not realise is that these panels are still ok to use. Sure they don’t as clean and shiny as new ones, but they are free and do work!

diy solar power

Tools needed:

To start making solar panels from broken solar cells you need a few things.

15-25 watt soldering iron

Light duty 60/40 electronics rosin core solder (radio shack $5.00 for a roll). You can use a silver solder, but I think it’s too expensive, and the difference in resistance is minimal. So I just use regular old electronics solder.

Multimeter

Pencil eraser

Solar tabbing pre tinned ribbing (ebay 100 feet is like $20 bucks)

A good flat sturdy working surface ( I use a piece of glass, but whatever you have will do)

Hand held wind charger

Solar power is ok when the sun shines, but wind power is better as there always seems to be a breeze blowing which is all that is needed for this device. The Hymini is the wind powered charger that can put the juice back into your PDA, cell phone, camera, mp3 and iPod.

wind charger

This is particularly good for people who use bikes to travel on, as the breeze created will force the mini turbine into moving and then can charge up your device while you go. However it could with a bracket of some sort that could fix it to the handle bar.
