Pandas have been known to be among the endangered species of animals today. While they are slowly known to be nearing extinction, the good news from China is that there are 35 new panda cubs that have been bred and saved thanks to the breeding techniques employed by the Breeding Techniques for the Giant Panda in China.

Chengdu - Thirty-one giant panda cubs were born worldwide this year and 25 have survived, according to Zhang Zhihe, director of the Chinese Committee of Breeding Techniques for the Giant Panda.

Zhang made the remarks on Monday during the opening ceremony of the five-day 18th Annual Meeting of the Chinese Committee of Breeding Techniques for the Giant Panda held in the capital of Southwest China’s Sichuan Province.

Panda protection organizations like the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda in the Wolong Nature Reserve and the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding have helped to achieve high cub birth and survival rates of the black and white animal.

The famous beer brewers of Suffolk Greene King are reclaiming the beer from their barrels and old beers that have been returned to be then forwarded on to farms who are giving it to the cows. However this beer is still going to be alcoholic but they still give it to the cows anyhow, stating that they still seem to like it.

Yet they say that it is recycling etc, but cows are the most un eco friendly animal around producing massive amounts methane, which is a very serious green house gas, and I would have thought that feeding them waste beer is not going make that situation any better, in fact it is more likely to get worse.

There are some strange things occurring around the world that go under the banner or eco friendly and green, it’s about time that there was “Green Standard” that everyone could stick to.

Scientists have altered the brain gene of some female worms, and have managed to make them go lesbian.

This scientific research comes from the Brain Institute of the University of Utah. The director of the study, Erik Jorgensen, states that the results of this study “suggests sexual behavior is encoded in our genes”.

The study in no way defines human sexuality or its many complexities, but it is interesting.

Climate change is something that has drawn various concerns all over the world and with this new discovery based on studies, it is apparent that people will understand that even human existence may soon be imperiled along with plant and animal life.

Just think of it. How can anyone live on a planet that provides intolerable climates? Even if people would be able to adjust at times, there will come a point where they have to adjust accordingly and precisely but this cannot be a standard practice.

We all know the little contributions we can make to avoid this tragedy from occurring. However, the problem lies in the fact that the effort requires a little bit more. This only goes to show that the world still has a lot of ground to cover and combat the climate change syndrome that is evident today.

Whaling in Japan as a means of research is being challenged by several activist organizations, as they state that it is not necessary to kill the whales in order to research them. With the new satellite tagging technology in place, research can be done without the hunt.

The spoon-billed bird is to be put on the endangered list as the numbers are dwindling for this most exotic and beautiful bird.

Cause of the low numbers for the Sandpiper Bird are the decline in feeding sites in their migration route from Russia to Asia, which they trek for the winter. Christoph Zöckler, international coordinator of the Spoon-billed Sandpiper Action Plan states, “they are just running out of places to stop and feed on migration.” Also the bird eggs are being preyed upon by foxes, dogs and other wildlife.

Birdlife, a bird conservation group, is taking the lead, and raising awareness of the possible extinction, and are urging for the care of the precious spoon-billed Sandpiper.
