Robotic Fish Sniff Out Pollution

The fight against river pollution is waring. The authorities have to contend with companies and individuals who think that disposing of waste in a river is ok to do. The problem is that all of the rivers cannot be monitored all of the time, until now that is.

The university of Essex have come up with robotic fish, they swim up and down the rivers while their sensors will check for pollutants, relay the results by using an on board Wi-Fi system and they navigate the rivers using GPS. At the end of the day, the fish will return to base to deliver results and a recharge of its batteries.

Robotic Fish Sniff Out Pollution

Online Training of Humane Animal Care for Food Producers Revealed

In an effort to ensure that animals are raised in the right way for better food production, the American Humane Certified(TM) farm animal welfare program today announced it will launch an online Humane Care Training Program for food producers to use in educating employees, growers and contractors who handle animals. The training will complement and expand American Humane Certified’s existing national program of auditing and certifying the humane handling of animals raised for food.

The new training program will begin testing in the spring of 2009, and should be available for widespread use by food producers in July 2009. The training will be required as a key component of American Humane’s certification process. It will feature easy access and clear, comprehensive lessons for anyone working in direct contact with animals. Every species will have its own training module that incorporates video and graphics to demonstrate key points. It will be the first humane training curriculum offered to producers and employees to demonstrate and reinforce science-based and compassionate animal welfare standards.

For large food-service companies, the training will illustrate a significant, socially responsible undertaking, especially as they require their employees and independent suppliers and growers to be trained in humane care and animal welfare standards. Other users likely will include universities and government agencies dealing with agriculture, such as the Food and Drug Administration and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Quick or not, traps are still something that contribute to animals dwindling in numbers. The prize for catching a bear or a fox? Their fur that eventually become coats! But not if the Fur-Bearer Defenders can help it!

Apparently they are standing in between the hunters and the preys and while the hunters are appealing their case, the bottom-line is that they are still hunting for the kill. Seeing bears suffer for a shorter or longer period of time doesn’t need to be compared. Fur clothing has been diminishing in demand these days and it all points to putting a stop to these traps and hunting. Like it or not, it is something that is inhumane as far as protecting the rights of animals today.

“The Inuit and native people have to make a living,” said Hawker. “Do you want us all on welfare?”

“Who wants to get into a dying industry?” he asked.

“The way the economy is going, we might need to go back into the bush.”

Who Really Owns the Wildlife?

We are all aware that the crackdown on the welfare of the wildlife is quite a sensitive issue. Looking out for the animals who may eventually face extinction if their race is not properly safeguarded, is still something we all have to really consider.

As far as who really has proper jurisdiction over them, it all really boils on the intent and purpose of placing the wildlife into perspective. This covers all animals we know of today. Some of them are slowly disappearing while others are plainly lost somewhere perhaps hiding from being caught or hunted down. This stems from the fact that they too are weary of who will be out to stand up for them and protect them altogether.

“In Montana, probably the biggest sin is that we’ve started to accommodate the commerce of hunting – the outfitter set-aside and the privileged access to hunting for commercial purposes,” he said. “It’s probably not against the law, but it violates the public trust responsibility that has been such a valuable tool in wildlife restoration.

“It’s a growing problem here. It’s the assumption that commercial users make that their clients are so incompetent that they can’t hunt with the people in common. It comes with public exclusion, and it does not accept the basic principle that we need to share it in common,” Posewitz said.
