It looks like being an electric cycle alone is not enough to convince the makers of Enertio of how eco-friendly it is. The Enertia is said to be even made from recycled materials as well such as plastic bottles and recycled battery cases. No wonder the bike weighs only 280 lbs. and doesn’t emit any toxic emissions! It is assembled in only 2 hours, uses recycled plastic bottles to make up the panels, and ground up car batteries to make up the fender.

If you want to be more green, you might also want to consider doing some wood recycling work around your house such as recycling an old gate into an outdoor table. Not only is this sensible, you might end up with a great outdoor table like the one seen in this picture.

The gates at the side of our house succumbed to a big wind storm recently. The cause was ground rot on the posts, but that meant that most of the wood was still in pretty good condition despite being over thirty years old. Instead of throwing it out my wife suggested recycling it to make an outdoor table.

Though we all have our own ways of going green, Yesterday’s News wants to know which eco-friendly habits are being done. From the simple turning off of the electric switch all the way to proper garbage disposal or even recycling practices, all these count in Yesterday’s News Do-Gooder Awards Contest. The contest invites all cat owners to submit stories on how they incorporate eco-friendly habits into their daily lives.

Amazing Sculptures Made From Recycled Steel

On Broadway in New York City several amazing sculptures made from recycled steel will make their stunning debut.

Artist Carol Eisner is the visionary behind the sculptures, she’s been creating and designing them for many years. One interesting feature of the exhibit is that each ginormous art piece has a call in number wherein those admiring the art can call in and hear a detailed description of the pieces and if they wish, leave a comment.

The nine recycled steel sculptures which are beautifully twisted and curved are scattered around Broadway and are sure to create an impression in the open air art world.

We have seen a lot of folding bikes in the news lately but this one takes the cake. This compact folding bike goes as for as making use of foldable wheels which makes it easier to pack. The bike bodies are easy to fold, owing to the fact that they are made from several pieces and at least now, you don’t have to worry about how a wheel would be folded. The wheel is made up of six modules which make it folded and be smaller. For now it remains to be a concept but given enough time and testing, it should hit the market officially and get its share of customers.

In Largo Florida a city contest is underway to solicit art made out of recycled materials, the Recycled Innovations Contest.

But they stipulate that the art has to be functional, as opposed to just something that one would hang on the wall. The actual point of this contest event is to divert waste which normally would end up in the local landfill in Tampa Bay. Need ideas? Contest is open to residents with online photo submissions due by October 10th. Voting begins on October 15th and winners will be announced on America Recycle’s Day which is November 15th.

Did you hear about the Neyland Stadium Replica built by University of Tennesse fan David Mann?

This is one amazing structure built with dozens of recycled electronic parts and one recycled cell phone LCD screen. Truly a work of art.

David Mann, an electronic technician, has built several such structures all for fun and play. Sort of like a hobby for him, although he admits that if the right price comes along for the Neyland Stadium Replica he would be willing to part with it. What is even more amazing than the artistry displayed in the model, is the fact that David built it without any blueprint or instructions of any sort. He built it solely from eyeing the real stadium a few times on the web. A skill not for the faint of heart.

The majority of the pieces (over 200 plus recycled circuit pieces) were sourced at work and the two light bulbs which light up the field he bought at Radio Shack. Lots of hours went into this beloved project and its evident by how fabulous the replica stadium looks.

Today, car sharing programs may be losing their purpose since many are shifting towards lower consuming vehicles like bicycles. And now as far as the city of Seattle is concerned, it looks like they are exploring of further helping the consumer save on finances as they study the possibility of bike sharing.

The bike alone is an eco-friendly option since they normally run on pedal power or electricity. So the next issue that may have to be addressed is that of capacity that bikes can take and the energy a person would have to use these said bikes.

Bike sharing is an eco-friendly option for short trips. The idea is to have rental stations throughout the city so people can check out a bike in one neighborhood and return it in another.

New Iowa Public Access TV Show Features Eco DIY Projects

In Iowa residents are going to be treated to a new DIY show, starring one of their own – Michele Beschen.

The name of the local public access show is to be titled b.organic and what’s neat about this particular DIY tv show is that the host Michele specializes in creating projects that are organic or eco friendly.

The first show will deal with creating unique organic tabletop decorations, with upcoming shows discussing recyclables. Sounds like fun to me!

The show will air daily at noon on Iowa public access stations across the state and will run about 30 minutes.

Eco friendly Cat Travels By Bus

Ready for a heart warming story this bright and leery Monday afternoon? Have I got one for you. Casper, the bus traveling cat.

Casper is a 12 year old senior citizen cat that has taken on a secret life of getting around his London town by literally going to a bus stop, getting in line with others and then hopping on board. He even takes a seat in the middle isle and as a senior he gets to ride for free, as do all senior citizens in the UK.

His owner a local named Susan, noticed several weeks ago that her cat would sort of take off for a few hours in the middle of the day, and she had been wondering where he was getting off to.

One day Susan followed her cat Casper and found out the unbelievable secret, she caught sight of him standing in line about to hop aboard a bus. Bus drivers in town are well acquainted with the kitty and let him board just fine.

Legend has it Casper likes to travel by bus, because he believes in the eco friendly mode of transport. Ok, we’re embellishing a tad, but this could very well be the reason.

Eco friendly Cat Travels By Bus

Recycled Spray Paint Can Lamps

Did you ever look at a spray can of paint and think to yourself, “hey I can make lamps out of these”. Well if you did, you’re in good company as so did the guys behind the Spray Can Lamp pictured above.

With the can pressure carefully emptied, these cans have their bottom panels removed to make way for a glass cover. The bulb holder is fitted somewhere in the top region of the can with the wire coming out from the nozzle. Each can is then painted with some weird, but, eye catching graffiti light from outside that gives them an authentic feel.

Although it looks easy enough, I don’t think people are rushing out to try this, as I really don’t know who still uses spray paint. But if you do, give it a try and feel free to let us know and be sure to send in pics.

Have some old (but in good shape) t-shirts lying around? Need shopping bags? In this super easy DIY, the guys and gals from Cut Out + Keep show us how to create shopping bags from old t-shirts.

It’s imple really. As the pictures show us, you will need:

old -tshirts
sewing machine (or a needle and thread)
scissors

First cut out the sleeves and then hem up the bottom of the shirt, be sure to sew two lines so it’s nice and sturdy for grocery use. Then cut out the excess material.

That’s it! You’ve got yourself one groovy DIY shopping bag.

Dallas Police Gets Sentinel Police Mobility Vehicles

The Dallas Police Department will be enforcing the law better with these new vehicles transported from Xtreme Products. This development promises to be a big improvement towards the surveillance and monitoring measures needed by the neighborhood, a new eco-friendly vehicle slated to replace the old bicycle and foot patrols in use before.

The Sentinel can travel at speeds up to 29 miles per hour and offers a range of 80 miles per charge at a cost of about 1 cent per mile. The transition is sure to be a welcome development to the security of the Dallas neighborhood which can now be monitored better and raising the level of interaction between the police and the community.

Electric Trekker Scooters Coming Out Soon

When it comes to being eco-friendly and addressing our transport needs, you will agree that electric vehicles are the way to go. And while we have seen a vast array of electric scooters and concept vehicles in the market, here is a new kind of electric transportation solution that should take the market by storm as soon as they have set up their distribution points. Originally conceptualized five years ago, these electric-powered trekkers are surely a new eco-friendly solution for transport needs.

You can’t yet buy a Trekker in New York – the ones on the streets were bought in Israel and taken back by plane or shipped over – but Trekker factories are about to open in pilot sites in Europe, as a step to bringing its production one “putt” closer to the United States market. Inventor Arik Yehuda, 41, is taking it step by step because parts and service centers need to be close by in order to provide customer service.

Electric Trekker Scooters Coming Out Soon

All Electric Xtreme Green X Rider Set for Launch

There is a new electric scooter set to hit the market and may be the best scooter yet. After evaluating the market trends and consumer buying behavior, it seems that Xtreme Green products may finally address two issues: power and speed.

Apparently these are the two leading problems that electric scooter riders are complaining about and now it seems that with the new X Rider, both issues have been addressed.

Xtreme Green products plans to release a fleet of new EPA-certified motorcycle in the X Rider this coming Summer. The X Rider makes use of a hub motor and batteries to reach a max speed of 60 mph.

Plans are that this new product form Xtreme Green products will be made available worldwide. The expected volume production per year is estimated to reach somewhere between 15,000 to 20,000 units.

Foldable Bikes and the London Garden Concept

Imagine a bike serving multiple purposes. In fact if there was a term for a bike more than just a bike, then perhaps now is the time to say it. Regardless, it seems that this is the role of this foldable bike in the London Garden concept. Other than being a transportation option, it can even be a source of power for public transport.

The foldable bike can be used in three modes:

Normal Mode (standard bike)
Exercise Mode (Storing and Generating Electricity)
Scooter Mode (Makes use of the stored energy for scootering)

Under the concept, these foldable bikes are stored in tall tree-like structures that can pass for bus stops in the modern world. The bike racks themselves are meant to generate power from rainwater, sun, and even kinetically from the wind as its swooping arms sway.

And the thing about generating energy is when a person takes the electric-powered bus or taxi. They can double as seats and the stored energy is in turn used by the electric vehicle.

Only in Paris! That is perhaps what best describes this new trend of serving tourists and people who want to enjoy the beauty of Paris the eco-friendly way. The concept is from Left Bank Scooters. Called the Rent-a-Vespa, they offer Vespa Scooters (LXV models) for use and are delivered right at the hotel you are staying in. The deal comes complete with helmets and wet weather gear delivered right at your hotel.

The Vespas being offered for rent are brand new LXV Vespa models, something that should further entice tourists who want to get around Paris. At least this may save people cost in fuel (if they use cars) and provide them the freedom to go. Hopefully they have a GPS or map of the city, especially if they are not familiar with the geography of Paris.

It is only a concept to date but reports have it that it will be hitting the streets of Beijing soon. And with the country determined to bring down their carbon emissions and provide an more environmentally conscious country, the Amur Leopard Electric Bike may have just come in time.

It is an electric bike although a lot of the electronic requirements seem to be pointing towards the gadgets that come along with this concept bike. Among the electronics included are navigational/communication devices that are right behind the steering wheel panel. The glaring thing about it is the storage where you can store a laptop, briefcase or a six pack.

The Hybrid Public Bike concept uses a pretty simple dynamo in the wheel combined with some circuitry in the bike that generates a generous amount of power that’s then saved on the bike until it’s parked. Recycle those Blown-out Inner Tube of your Bikes

People with old bike parts, specifically the blown out inner lubes, can dispose of them properly with this program that was recently launched. Together with Alchemy Goods, Performance Bicycles is launching a program called the Bike Tube Blowout starting this Friday, July 17 up to Sunday, July 19 at the Re-Grand Opening of its San Francisco store and the Grand Opening of its new store in San Mateo.

Anybody can come to Performance’s San Francisco and San Mateo stores to drop off old, unused or blown-out inner tubes for recycling (with the exception of gel-filled and/or thorn-resistant tubes). All donors will receive a $5 money card. Alchemy Goods will use the inner tubes in its popular line of messenger bags and accessories, which are made entirely through recycling.

We all know for a fact that electric scooters are being hit for their lack of speed but hopefully these new electronic fuel injection systems can erase that stigma. Vespa also cited lower emissions and fuel consumption as added benefits of switching to fuel injection.

I was thinking earlier of an easy way to reel up my water garden hose, as I had pulled it out this weekend to wash my truck. I Googled “DIY hose reel” to see what easy and low cost ideas were out there.

I found this, “How To Wrap A Really Long Garden Hose, Without A Hose Reel”.

It’s quite simple an idea really. Mr Handyman says to grab a ladder and essentially wrap the hose around it, starting from the top of the ladder. Work your way around it and be sure to fasten it first to the ladder, so it doesn’t cut loose as you’re flipping it around.

This idea didn’t really fit my need, as I have a regular 50 ft hose and not the 100 foot hose this DIY project was aimed at. But still I thought I would share it with you, as it deemed worthy of a mention for the DIY home warrior.

When you think of alternative fuel, cost may sometimes take a backseat. This is because you have to ask yourself, are you looking for something economic or something to answer the disappearing resources of fuel? Well as far as this post is concerned, it tried to answer the latter.

Tequila is normally something we drink at bars or special occasions. But to use them as an alternative means of fuel may be both beneficial and costly. Beneficial in the sense that we find a new source of fuel which seems to be the focus of most people today.

Apparently there is a prime ingredient in Tequila. To us, it is not a new one. The agent is ethanol, one of the most heard elements that could possibly replace the standard fuel we have today. With the right process, it can be the new alternative fuel for scooters once it has been officially proven as suitable.

Teens are about to get a crash course in environmental issues at the Davenport Library in the Quad Cities area.

But this art workshop should prove to be a fun recycling activity, and not so much a science lesson.

On Tuesday, July 14th local area teen students will learn how to create art from used music CD’s. They’re being encouraged to bring in their old scratched up CD’s to make useful and cool things with them. No telling what creative goodies will come out of this, here’s hoping the students or teachers put up pics of some of the finished recycled CD art. Kids are something creative.

What a great way to expose and prepare the next generation for the reuse revolution of the future.

In the eighties, just when everything began to get smaller, portable music became bigger, much bigger, with the arrival of the boombox. Well it looks like a new greener and more sophisticated version may be about to take off.

The DIY Solar Powered Radio Boombox is an MP3 player that you can turn into a boom-box with your own fair hands. Making use of simple plywood it is possible to easily create a big MP3 that powers itself on sunshine.

You can even make use of used speakers, to make your MP3 blast out sounds while you are on the move. You will need a battery to actually power the unit, but the solar panel will take care of charging it up. You don’t even have to buy the battery you can pick one up at the junkyard off an old motor bike.

You will need a $30 Sonic Impact amplifier which you can easily hook up and that’s it, everything you need to give a new green twist to a twenty year old idea.

We’re featuring a series of funny but clever DIY’s today, and now we showcase the DIY toothbrush holder.

This one is made using a recycled computer mouse. The top seems to have been take out along with the insides, and voila – a new use for an old product. I’m guessing on the back is double-sided tape or other waterproof adhesive that allows for placing on the bathroom shower wall.
