A wooden TV stand used to be all of the rage but as television changed to hi-tech big screened plasma sets, the stands seemed to change too. Out went wood and in came metal, plastic and glass, for time it seemed that wood had gone forever.

However, wood is back, and this time the manufacturers have been doing right. They have chosen Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) SmartWood, in fact, this stand only uses five pieces of this wood and it still has a shelf underneath for satellite and DVD players.

When we see all of those famous actors and beautiful people, promoting their green awareness and in some cases their eco friendly life styles. Many of us tend to take notice, but being a celebrity means that they have certain advantages over other people.

Take the actor Woody Harrelson, we all know that he takes green issues very seriously indeed, so much so that when he travelled to the Cannes Film Festival in France, he some how forgot that he would be needing his vegan shoes and belt.

Green TV has films created by users, independent publishers, and some small companies. They focus on select categories including air, land, water, climate change, technologies, people, and species. Green TV also has channels (similar to YouTube) of which two caught my eye: Green Sauce and Green Music.

Al Gore wins Nobel

I am not surprised to see that Al Gore won the Nobel Peace Prize, after things have been shaping up for him to clean up this year which he has done, in fact you could that he has really found his forte!

The man who used to be the next President of the United States has to share the $1.5 million prize with the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, there are some people who are slightly cynical about this award, and that he may use this to further his own political agenda and run for Presidency next year.

When Richard Branson sets his mind to something, people better sit up and listen. But in this case their may be some people who would not really want his attention.

The TV show is going to be a sort of ultra celebrity “Cribs” type show, but not to show off all what they own, the purpose of the show is explore the excess of the rich and famous.

At the moment there is talk of Natalie Imbruglia being the host of show which maybe premiering on the new TV channel, Virgin 1, whether this is a real show or just hype is not known, but it’s a good idea!

How does he know all of this, do think that it is true how he was described in Futurama?

The book is due to be published on Earth Day, 22nd April 2008 by Rodale Books.

Al Gore writes sequel to that story

Al Gore wins another award

The man who used to be the next President of the United States of America, has won yet another award, if this carries on he will need a larger house in order to store them all!

The former Vice President now turned environmental campaigner was awarded the Gothenburg Prize for Sustainable Development for his great work on eco friendly and green issues around the world. This award was first awarded way back in 1999 and was established by the cities councilors and business leaders.

The panel have congratulated Al Gore for his work on the film “An inconvenient Truth” and also more recently the Live Earth concerts. He is expected to be accepting the award in person at the award ceremony in Gothenburg next January. If he sets off now he could probably walk most of the way to save on carbon emissions.

NBC Universal’s Thursday night line-up, which includes Scrubs, The Office, My Name is Earl and 30 Rock will be eco-themed.

“For the first time ever, the massive resources of the entire NBC Universal family will stand together behind a single pro-social cause,” Bravo Media president Lauren Zalaznick said in a prepared statement. “This far-reaching initiative represents the first step in our commitment to help raise environmental awareness and effect change both internally and externally.”

Additionally, hit shows Heroes and Deal or No Deal and the NBC News will be eco-themed as well.

NBC affiliates such as Bravo, the Sci Fi channel and other channels will have green themed programming too.

How green are those Hollywood celebrities

We all hear about the words that they say, but in reality how eco friendly are those celebrities?

There are many who have jumped onto the band wagon, you always get those who try sound like they are green but in the mean time they are off in the jet across to Europe for some shopping.

Here is a list of some stars and their green habits.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus – Her new home with husband Brad Hall is practically a poster for green efficiency.

Alanis Morissette – On my list more because I like her and less because she excels at being green, but nonetheless has added things such as solar panels and hybrids to her repertoire.

Regina Spektor – This not-too-well-known singer/pianist attended Tennessee’s Bonnaroo 2007 along with Alexa Ray Joel and others. This concert’s no Live Earth, but it helps educate and entertain on a green basis.

Morgan Freeman – Drives an electric car and helps educate about being kind to the environment through speeches and interviews. Basically a cool guy.

Arnold Schwarzenegger – I know The Governator wouldn’t be the first person thought of when eco-friendly is mentioned, but he actually has been working in California to encourage the installment of solar panels in one million new homes over the next 13 years.

Harrison Ford – won the Global Environmental Citizen Award (2002) and is vice chairman of the Board of Conservation International (CI), on which he has served for more than ten years

You see some stars are green.

I know I complained about the celebration of the supposed greening of Steve Carrell’s new film Evan Almighty, but apparently the cast and crew did do more greening than they originally let on. With the movie opening Friday, the green message and practices are becoming more and more discussed.

Campaigning May Be Bad for the Environment

Green TV is the first broadband internet channel to be exclusively dedicated to environmental issues.

largeblue, a film production and multimedia company felt that organizations like Greenpeace and the Sierra Club needed a consistent, strong and cohesive network to showcase their projects and ideas. They felt that without a singular television channel dedicated to such a cause, often their stories were told once and then discarded.

Supported by the United Nations Environment Program, Green TV is hoping to expand and include a shopping network, more original content and a wide variety of channels. Right now, you can check out the air, land, water, climate change, technologies, people, species, news, features and kids channels. They also have podcasts you can check out.

NBC Commits to Eco-Friendly TV Production

NBC Universal announced today that it is becoming committed to green television production.

In the press release NBC announced

NBC U says that is will adopt a companywide program to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and change the media and entertainment industry culture when it comes to “green issues.”
Initiatives will include working toward lowering GHG emissions by 3% by 1012. encouraging communities to “go green,” and educating staffers about the issue.
NBC U has also created an NBC Green Council to spearhead the initiatives, headed by Bravo President Lauren Zalaznick.
How does a TV production go green. NBC U says it will use hybrid production vehicles whenever it can, use nontoxic and low-emission paints and sealants, and purchase “carbon emission offsets.” In the case of the production of Universal Pictures “green” production of Evan Almighty, that was giving money to the Conservation Fund to plant 2,000 trees to “zero out” the carbon emissions from the production.

Additionally, Anne Thompson was named chief of environmental affairs correspondent, all DVD’s distributed by the home entertainment division will plug going green; a Live Earth concert will be roadblocked across NBC networks, Bravo’s broadband nets were to be roadblocked with “It’s Not Easy Being Green” content Thursday and NBC stations will start airing “going green” segments.

It is best to start educating people at a young age. No other source of medium has been seen to be as powerful as that of television, cartoons of which are easily the ones sought after by the little tykes who patronize them. Captain Planet and the Planeteers is not purely a standard cartoon series where heroes battle villains. They contain moral lessons as well and ways on how to avoid the environmental hazards we have today.

Some kids may no appreciate the Captain Planet series but this depends on the level of understanding they have on what they are actually watching. Being aware of the environmental hazards is one way of helping save the natural resources of our planet and what things to avoid. Even adults may pick up a thing or two if they have a time to watch them alone or with their siblings.

PBS Has a Green New Show

PBS (public broadcasting station) announced today that, beginning June 5th, it will broadcast a new television series that will educate home-owners about coast-effective and eco-friendly ways they can renovate and update their homes! The show will be called “Building Green” and will be hosted by Kevin Contreras.

The show will consist of several mini-segments, such as “Inside Rhe Design,” “Saving Green,” “The Green Extreme,” “Building Health,” “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle,” and “Easy Steps.” They hope that the show can explore green design from several different angles so that the information provided will be new, exciting and accessible to all types of home-owners and do-it-yourselfers.
