FAA Makes Use of E4 Electric Scooters

When it comes to supplying your employees with better transport needs, electric scooters may be a great solution. Particularly for businesses or factories that have a large area that needs mobility, finding a suitable solution like what the FAA did may be a viable option. Something like this GEM E4 electric scooter.

The model is the GEM E4 vehicle, one reason that garnished the Aeronautical Center a Presidential Closing the Circle Award for leadership in federal environmental stewardship.

At the moment they are only three electric scooters but plans to expand in-house transportation to nine are in the works. These scooters will in turn help the 5,500 employees get around the 1,000 acre campus.

ExxonMobil Announces New Safer Lithium-Ion Batteries

With the demand for lithium-ion batteries expected to increase, ExxonMobil takes the initiative in making sure that they distribute quality and efficient batteries once that happens. ExxonMobil Chemical continues to extend its technology leadership with the development of two new grades of V series co-extruded battery separator films.

These new developmental grades will help make lithium-ion batteries (LIB) safer than ever before for hybrid and electric vehicles, power tools and electronic devices including laptop computers.

Featuring improved thermal stability and lower shutdown temperature for a higher safety margin, the developmental grades add to the company’s battery separator film portfolio that includes the award-winning V-series separator films introduced in 2007.

Based on the same advanced co-extrusion technology platform and proprietary wet bi-orientation manufacturing process as V-series separator films, the developmental grades can help prevent thermal runaway in batteries while providing LIB designers more flexibility in selecting electrode systems and formats in battery designs to improve power and capacity density.

ExxonMobil Chemical currently manufactures battery separator films in Nasu, Japan, and is building a manufacturing facility in Gumi, Korea, to accommodate additional demand and serve global customers reliably and efficiently. The new manufacturing plant will be completed in 2010.

This product is not available on Keetsa.

Say goodbye to emissions as emission-free scooters take center stage.Emission-free electric scooters are growing in popularity as city dwellers look for new ways to boot around town. On the other hand, for people who crave performance and speed, they’re seen as a wimpy way to travel.

If you’re one of those speed freaks, Santa Cruz, Calif.-based Zero Motorcycles has you in its sights. The company visited Toronto yesterday to launch its Zero S battery-powered motorcycle into the Canadian market, giving urban commuters another way of going electric.

The Zero S has an aircraft-grade alloy frame and weighs a scant 102 kilograms. It can drive up to 97 kilometres on a single charge and is capable of reaching 100 kilometers per hour. A four-kilowatt, 31-horsepower lithium-ion battery pack allows it to go from zero to 100 km/h in less than four seconds.

It will sell for $9,950 (U.S.), excluding shipping costs, and Canadian pricing is expected shortly.

Here is another bike you should watch out for. Through the months, we have brought to you various bike concepts each having its own advantage as far as eco-friendly and healthy travel is concerned. While the Panasonic Vivi RX-10S bike has almost the same features, its key feature is the dynamo on the front wheel which is connected to a rechargeable battery by the rear wheel.

So if you are going downhill, you can recharge the batteries through a freewheeling downhill motion which may eventually power the bike later on if you get tired pedaling.

“In principle, the idea is simple. When the bicycle is at the top of a hill, that is potential energy, and when it is moving downwards we have kinetic energy. Normally that kinetic energy is converted into heat from the friction of the brakes, but in this case it is used to power the battery,” said Peter Hall, professor of chemical engineering at Strathclyde University.

One thing about eco-friendly ideas today is that they come up with unique ideas to enhance what going green is all about. One of these inventions that people have produced is the Uno Electric Cycle. Now we all know that electric powered vehicles are becoming a good alternative towards the growing fuel crisis but the twist here the you will notice is that it run on one wheel.

Technically it is on a couple of wheels but at first glance they look just like one. The Uno was unveiled recently at the National Motorcycle Show in Toronto.

Segway is just one of those things that just keep’s coming back in a new guise time after time.

This time the Segway is to become a personal back up machine as it fits into a compartment within the vehicle, this would be great for trips out and it may ok if you happened to run out of gas, providing that you are in range of the gas station. Mind you GM would probably put this into an electric car!

Created by the research group “Smart Cities” from MIT, this scooter is really cool not just because it is a light weight folding electrically powered scooter, but simply because it’s an inexpensive way of travelling around the city in style.

These bikes offer a great mode of transport that is silent, green and easy to ride. The bike is charged every time that it is placed into its rack.

The eco friendly Robo Scooter

There are a lot of these of these coming through now, but this one is pretty cool and very usable, with a top speed of eleven miles per hour, can carry a load of up to fifty pounds and will travel over thirty miles on one charge.

Although this sort looks like a child’s toy that has been converted to carry a man, and a load. This is idea for airports, malls, amusement parks, fairgrounds, schools, universities, parking garages, parking enforcement, parades etc.

Features:

People soft and safe one-piece plastic body, with integral wheel-wells, storage, and “padding” for operator comfort and safety.

Roto-molded body is color-impregnated (no painting), hi-impact strength, never dents, and is scratch resistant (scratch it, and it’s still the same color).

Body can be removed in less than 30 seconds. The batteries could be swapped-out in minutes (this could be very beneficial in rental or multi-shift operations).

Many safety features including: charger interlock (cannot be driven while plugged-in); regen braking (feel of compression braking on downhills or slowing down, and roll-away is reduced to creep speeds); downhill speed limiting; timed shutdown after 3 minutes of non-use (time programmable); low-volume reverse beeper; etc.

Driver fairly well protected from low-speed collisions, even from the rear (an important feature for parking lot duties).

Very stable. Batteries (which are located as low as possible in the vehicle) provide incredible ballast. Impossible to “wheelie” with front wheel drive. “If you get in trouble on this vehicle; you were lookin’ for it.”

Plastic battery tray designed into the body mold, and cut from what would have been scrap. Impervious to acid – protects frame from rust-through which is a common problem to all other industrial vehicles. Powder-coated frame also prolongs its life (compared to paint).

Incredible range: Pulls about 20 amps at cruising speed. Could travel over 30 miles on a charge.

This is not a disposable junk, wimp-mobile, that is commonly marketed. This is a Made In USA tough vehicle, built for the industrial market, using the best quality components that will last for years in harsh use.

Has a higher perceived value than any other vehicle in its class (industrial vehicles).

Easy and intuitive to drive. You won’t need lessons before jumping on it and driving it away (compared to 2-wheel balancing types).

Tested and proven product. Well over a year of every day use with several target customers.

Very inexpensive, off-the-shelf replacement batteries. Easy to find anywhere in the world. Projected battery life 3 to 5 years. Typical replacement cost: $80 to $130 each retail; depending on quality and source (uses two batteries).

This is not your ordinary scooter, for one its battery powered and secondly it just looks super cool. This is the 4×4 version of the scooter and there is no terrain that would frighten off the Ikoo!

The all important charge time is put down as being between four and six hours, the top speed is eighteen miler an hour and it has a range of around eighteen miles, so this could quite easily be use to go to work on, and with a turn around charge of six hours max, then there is enough time to get the batteries fully for the return journey.

The technology will not allow the battery to be overcharged.

Do you run a business? Are you an entrepreneur? Have you jumped on the green bandwagon yet? Well, you and your business stand to gain alot from incorporating some green ideas and practices, you just need to ask yourself a few questions.

Whatever kind of business you run – whether a clothing shop, a restaurant, even an online only venture – know that you CAN make it green. Start by looking at your operations, and ask yourself the following questions:

how can we reduce, reuse, or recycle? what products are really just extra dressing (such as fancy packaging) and don’t need to be bought or used at all? (such as coffee sleeves) can you find creative ways to reuse paper in your office?
what can be bought locally? looking at your supplier list are there local suppliers you have not thought of or looked at? is there food you can start using that is grown and sold locally?
how can you conserve energy? is there any equipment that can be put on strip surges, instead of the wall outlets? are your computers left on all night, how about lights? why not draft up a plan for your employees to come up with ways to conserve, maybe even reward the employee with the sharpest green idea.
can you sell more in one trip to a customer? with this idea, you are conserving in energy costs with less trips and less shipping from both suppliers and customers
do you NOT want to set yourself apart from the competition? sure, when you go green you are saying so many things, you are saying hey, i care about the planet, hey, i care for the future sustainability of my business and hey, i care about the growing demand for eco friendly products and practices
what eco friendly materials can i start using? from fsc certified wood for furniture shops to sustainable fibers for clothing retailers such as bamboo, hemp, canvas, organic cotton there are a number of different ways to add some green in your business

If you stand back and take a good look, there are so many ways to go green in business, you just need to ask yourself some questions, and go from there.
