Corks were known to seal in the freshness of wine over the years but wine makers shifted towards plastic corks to somehow jazz up wine a bit, particularly to open them easier outside the cork popping hardships that would require people have a trusty cork screw in hand to open them.

While the intent was commendable, plastic is a hot item in the world of eco-friendly practices today. In fact, people are protesting them and now it seems like the wine makers have to do something about it. The solution? Cardboard Tubes.

But the issue of retaining the spirit in the bottles is up and the air. So if they don’t want to shift to these cardboard tubes, does it mean they are going to ignore these pleas?

Don’t be surprised if they figure out something. They always do!

It was not that long ago when the local planning people threw out the proposed golf course and resort in Scotland planned by Donald Trump, but Mr Trump said that he would be back and he was true to his word. This time he has the backing of the Scottish first minsters Alex Salmond, who is saying that in this current climate an investment like this would be great.

With so much opposition, Donald Trump would have seemed to have needed a miracle to get this decision overturned. Well this has seemed to have happened in the guise of the credit crunch, for if this had not happened Donald Trump would have stood little chance of getting this through, but since the financial problems governments have been doing strange things. The development is on 2,000 acres and will include two 18 hole golf courses, nearly 4,000 timeshare flats, 500 homes, 35 villas and housing for 400 staff.

Envirowise Look Into Packaging

Packaging designers are to get some help from the UK government when it comes to deciding what sort of packing and what type of packaging is eco friendly. The government organisation Envirowise will be running webinars, which can be viewed through the user’s computer.

The webinars will be taking place in February of next year and will cover everything from eco design to relevant legislation. This is a good idea as this type industry can find the rules changing on a regular basis.

Guy Bashford, Envirowise North-East manager, said: “The feedback we had from last year’s webinar was extremely positive, with nine out of ten of those who participated saying they would sign up for another one.

“Since then, we have developed the content to give a broader picture and include more practical elements which we think will be of use and interest to anyone involved in the process.”

Guess who is the next celebrity making a pitch at eco-friendly investments. Controversial yet popular actress Pamela Anderson is putting up an eco-friendly hotel in Abu Dhabi after her recent trip for the Make a Wish Foundation Charity after being persuaded by the royal family to become a hotelier there.

Being the environmental conscious person that she is, this is Anderson’s part of giving back to the environment, putting an eco-friendly investment like other popular stars have done before her like Brad Pitt.

She reveals, “I’m building a hotel there. It’s environmentally friendly. I went there with the Make a Wish Foundation and met some great people there, and the royal family was really friendly.”
And the environmentally-conscious star insists the hotel is kind to the earth: “It’s built with no fossil fuel at all….in Abu Dhabi – where they have all that oil.”

The best way to do business the eco-friendly way is to support it with accommodating explanations on how your products are green. For people like Peter Totfalusi, the owner of Perfectly Natural in Sudbury, orienting customers on the whole concept of his store and his products is an educational way to push for eco-friendly awareness that we only bear in mind.

These days, people want to know how eco-friendly consumer products are and what the difference may be. Totfalusi walks around his 600 foot-square store doing just that. On whether this is a marketing approach, the best thing of it all is that at least people now know how green the products they are buying are.

Totfalusi, owner of Perfectly Natural in Sudbury, moves around his 600-square-foot store like a museum docent, explaining the purpose behind each product, like candles made from soy instead of paraffin.

“Paraffin wax candles are made from petroleum, and soy candles are made from soy wax, a natural product made from soybeans,” said Totfalusi. He explains that paraffin candles release benzene, a carcinogen when burned, and fumes can contain methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) and naphthalene, chemicals found in paint and varnish removers. Most soy candles are made with natural oils and not synthetic scents that burn off into a room.

As things go, an aircraft is a fairly large object. Given the size of a routine jumbo jet and the never ending rising costs of property, converting an old jumbo jet into a restaurant wouldn’t be such a bad idea, would it?

That’s what the owners of this old plane had in mind when they recycled the giant bird into a one hundred and fifty table restaurant. With the potential amount of customers, there shouldn’t be a problem generating income. What use of a novel idea! After all, this is literally an idea that stands out from traditional mortar and brick bound grub hubs. Although, it has to be said, the exterior could do with a lick of paint! I propose green!

You have to wonder how many diskettes there are in the world, most of which are not likely to be used either! But as with many things that appear to be useless and would not go down well in a furnace or landfill site. So when we find something that is really cool and is made from something that is a bit of nightmare to dispose of, this make us feel great!

The bracelet has been made by a designer in Belgium but is on sale on the Pure Design Company for $110, which may seem expensive, but this is in effect designer jewellery using recycled diskettes that have be sewn together to create a flower like design.

A Portable Eco-Friendly Car Wash in New York

As far as green and cleanliness is concerned, a mobile carwash is on its way to New York and it is certainly something many people would be looking forward to. Called the Geo Wash, it is a handcart filled with water to hand wash each car that would be interested in it. The said cart uses a quarter of a gallon of water to wash a single vehicle.

For entrepreneurs, Geo Wash can also be a good business to invest on. Going green and earning some green as well while your at it!

The Manhattan-based Geo Wash is partnering with Zipcar, of Cambridge, MA, a car sharing company, allowing the washes to be conducted at Zipcar’s parking garages in the city.

Marc Martilotta, one of Geowash’s New York partners, said in the report, “We want to be an existing presence. If you pull into ‘X,’ ‘Y’ or ‘Z’ garage and see a sign for Geowash, you can get your car washed while you’re at a show or at dinner.”

Martilotta said he thinks washes will cost between $18 and $20 each.

Theses cake shaped bars of soap are made from vegan glycerine by Mollycoddle Soap, you could say that they are good enough to eat, but it is not recommended, prices start at around $3.

It may have been open for a little but it takes time for the news to filter around, and the news is that there is an unassuming green store simply called “Eco” which happens to be owned by the heart throb and all round good guy Colin Firth.

The store is located in Chiswick, which is slightly on the outside border of London, or not depending on your viewpoint. Not only does the store sell nice green things the building itself has been turned into an example of how we could all change the buildings that we use by simply adding solar panels, vertical gardens, recycled wood flooring and anything else recycled.

These mirrors have been made by the designer Kathy Taylor Gray taking a mirror that she had made earlier and buy carefully cutting up soda cans into small but regular shapes and sizes has created a sort of mosaic from the cans, of course you can make out what the tiles were before, but that is the point isn’t it?

For around $40 one of these fantastic mirrors could be yours, which if you consider the design, planning and work that have gone into this piece it has to be worth it.

I just read the scariest post evah, lawyer guy Al Nye writes in his blog, that a chief energy advisor mentions that the gas prices we are seeing today of $4- $5 per gallon of gas, are in the near future gonna be known as “the good ole days”.

$12 to $15 per gallon of gas. Those are insane numbers, and all heck is going to break loose, if gallon prices went up that high. I shudder to think what will happen to the world as we know it. I hate to get all dramatic, but just think about it for a moment. It would cost most Americans like $200 bucks a week to fill up. That is simply not possible for many. I envision mass transit also being affected, as those who cant afford gas, would have to take buses and trains to get to and from work, etc.

Bike sales would go up, which is a positive. (for biker sellers) Hey, entreprenuer types, there is a fledging business idea for you. Start a bike business. Not the electric bike kind, just the regular old-fashioned human powered type bicycles.

The site has already propelled two major ideas to come to life, FREE Wi-Fi and FREE Coffee for Frequent Buyers, which are both set to take place in Spring 2008. I personally feel this idea is brilliant, and am really surprised more companies aren’t doing it. The feedback provided would be invaluable to you and the future growth of your enterprise.

How StarBucks Does It

The site created by Starbucks allows for registered users to voice their opinion, while others get to vote on said ideas. So the most popular ideas are the ones SB concentrates on. According to Lorna Li, who writes on green marketing, not surprisingly so, many of the ideas and issues that customers are adding to the SB site are green related.
