Cassette tapes are passé and for sure you would be told that they can be recycled to something else. Apparently here is a new output once they are recycled, ties. And they are not just plain wearable ties, they are playable as well. They are designed by Alyce Santoro and Julio Cesar. They are made from 50% colored thread and 50% recorded audio cassette tapes.

The Sonic Fabric Neckties are available from Supermarket in black, dark brown and grey and retail for $90. Check out the video.

Guess who is the latest celeb to join the eco-fashion frenzy? It is no other than Selena Gomez, the 17 year old actress of Wizards of Waverly Place. Gomez has teamed up with Generra designer Tom Melillo and Sandra Campos to create a new range of eco-friendly clothing for girls. Gomez plans to call them “Dream Out Loud by Selena Gomez” and is being set to come out in stores by Autumn of next year.

To give you a clue on what she wants from the new eco-clothing line, Selena wants them to be easy to dress up or down with fabrics coming from eco-friendly and organic resources.

Emma Watson has partnered with the People Tree brand to deliver a new line of eco-friendly fashion aimed at consumers aged between 16-24. For her part, Watson will be the creative adviser for the brand perhaps weaving her magic this time around in the real world.

The collection will includes knitwear, cotton T-shirts, jersey dresses, poplin skirts and shorts, described by People Tree as “clean, sexy and easy to wear,” and will be available in stores in February 2010.

As eco-fashion continues to grow, at least People Tree has found a niche to concentrate on. And from the looks of it, the Harry Potter sweetheart will have her work cut out for her. But then, if her appearance and wardrobe for the hit movie series is any indication, a lot of teens are sure to be looking forward to what she will have to offer.

Pamela Anderson has unveiled her new eco-friendly collection fashion line, a collection of animal and eco-friendly clothing that is now set to be released in New Zealand. She has partnered with Richie Rich and was looking for a suitable venue to launch the new eco-friendly line. Apparently Anderson found it in New Zealand.

Though earlier reports had the line being called “MUSE”, the official name being settled on appears to be “A*MUSE”. The range will reflect her stance on animal rights, and the pair plan to produce a vegan shoe line.

The necklace is handcrafted and made from materials that include the likes of açai, jabon, tagua (vegetable ivory), and huayruro. These are all natural seeds sustainably harvested from the South American rainforest.

This new fall collection introduces the extra long Açai Rope Necklace which retails for $39. It measures 75 inches in length and resembles a long strand of pearls. The generous length makes a versatile necklace that can be wrapped around two, three or four times to create different looks. It can also be layered or wrapped multiple times around the wrist as a bracelet or worn as a stylish belt.

The Açai Rope Necklace comes in six bright colors—fire, olive green, polished natural, wine, turquoise, and electric purple.

There are a lot of things you can do when you recycle certain items. But apparently it looks like now, PET bottles can be made into fashionable T-shirts thanks to Active Knitwear. These recycled t-shirts are called the AnvilSustainable, each using approximately three 20-ounce recycled plastic bottles, and the cotton utlized comes from farms that are in the three-year process of transitioning to organic.

The AnvilSustainable tee was timed to debut at MAGIC marketplace, one of the largest apparel trade shows, currently being held in Las Vegas. Anvil Knitwear is the largest domestic purchaser of US-grown certified organic cotton, is the world’s sixth-largest organic program, and as the fashion industry moves to more environmentally friendly practices, the notion that innovative companies can influence larger industry trends is carrying more and more weight.

As you can see from the images these bags are not outrageous in any way, but have a closer look and then you will what they have been made from.

The designers Silvina Cannito and Guillermina Balsells have found that high quality clothing found in second hand stores can get a new lease of life as a bag; these quality materials are hard wearing and naturally look good too. However, the designers do not just use one piece of material, occasionally they produce a bag from several pieces and the effect is quite stunning.

The 41-year-old former ‘Baywatch’ babe, who’s also an animal rights activist, is working with Rich to design a line of leather-free shoes and casual clothes, including hooded tops, skirts and swimwear for the new Muse brand.

The fashion line is scheduled to debut this summer.

These were information posters that were designed to keep the spirit going and warn the public of what to look out for i.e. “Careless Talk, Costs Lives” these were the governments way of connecting with the public.

Another slogan was “Keep Calm and Carry On” this message was supposed to keep the general public working hard and not to worry about the bombs that were falling all around them. In keeping with these public spirited messages, eco designers Howies have reinvented the slogans for their T Shirts with an eco edge to them, like “Get Excited and Make Things” the true green message at its best.

The question of which is greener, going to the stores or shopping online used to be a very debatable questions with arguments for and against being very strong. But recently there has been a study and the results are stunning.

According to study carried out by researchers at the Heriot-Watt University in Scotland, it turns out that online shopping is greener than visiting the stores in person, in fact it is significantly environmentally friendly in some cases up to twenty four times greener than conventional shopping. This only works with single items, when it comes to food shopping we have to suppose that the debate is still open.

Many say that this is the year to get married. And while many brides-to-be are anxiously awaiting what type of dress to wear, it may be well to consider using alternative materials for their wedding gowns. Actually, these days we see the evolution of the wedding paraphernalia. And one notable material being used is that of the paper dress.

A paper wedding dress designed by a student at Gray’s school of art is to dawn the catwalk at a prestigious bridal awards ceremony. Christina McIntosh’s eco-friendly design has been shortlisted in the 2009 Bridal Buyer Awards.

Christina’s design, entitled “A Paper Promise”, was inspired by ideas of an eco-friendly future.
After a lot of consideration she decided to find a material that was as recyclable as paper.

Tyvek is an extremely versatile material which looks just like paper but is much more durable and is often used in the industrial and medical packaging industry.

The innovative idea even incorporates origami flowers.

Jackie Christie, wife of NBA Star Doug Christie, fashion designer, and author will be releasing her new eco-friendly clothing line, Colored Girl on May 9, 2009. This will coincide with the debut of her third book, “Proud to Be a Colored Girl”. The approach of this double launch and much anticipated clothing line is to instill the feelings of self worth, beauty and equality in all women.

Jackie’s line will launch first with designer eco friendly 100% organic cotton t-shirts and accessories, and later followed by a hip relaxed and fun denim collection. Her line will be available initially on-line and in stores located in Seattle WA, Los Angeles CA, and Atlanta GA. This limited release is done by design to ensure that women will come together more to get my pieces if my clothes are not widely available at first, Jackie comments.

“There are so many causes I’m involved with my true mission in life is to lend support to the underprivileged, and suffering. To try to bring about positive change in not just the world, but also the environment. To be honest it is very difficult to narrow it down to just one cause,” expresses Jackie Christie.

As if by magic the sports label Adidas have managed to out their new eco label together in time for the New York Fashion Week. The event is where Adidas will be launching the SLVR label that includes shoes, clothing and accessories, which have been designed for spring and summer.

The clothing line uses eco friendly and sustainable materials such as organic cotton, soybean fibre and of course, no collection would be complete without bamboo. The collection is dominated by black and white although there is the occasional splash of colour here and there.

It is hard to imagine eco friendly socks, but as green clothing is a big hit amongst people these days and why should under wear be any different? The problem is that eco friendly materials such as hemp can be a bit course and therefore would not be any good for socks.

However, sock maker Secret has brought out a new line called Secret Nature; these socks are made from soybean fibres, which are produced during the Tofu manufacturing process. This fabric is soft and has often been compared to the feel of silk; therefore, it would make great socks.

Apparently, these new lines are made from recycled dyes.

A family owned business and long time innovator in dye sublimation, CL Activewear started an effort to get away from strong chemical dyes and to develop products using earth-friendly materials and water-based dyes over 5 years ago. Wild Wild-Wool Fashion from New Zealand

There is a new kind of wool being buzzed around and it comes from non-native furry animals roaming around New Zealand. Called the Paihamu, this silky-soft and warm fiber is spun with locally raised merino wool to make a washable, no pill cashmere-like fabric that is softer, warmer and lighter than plain wool.

Paihamu was first brought to New Zealand from Australia to establish a fur trade in the 1800s, but its population spiraled out of control to an estimated 70 million, outnumbering New Zealanders 17 to 1. Paihamu occupy over 99% of the country and nightly consume 20,000 tons of vegetation.

The interesting part of this retail journey is to learn that all the eco-friendly reasons aside, people buy it because it is gorgeous, soft, affordable and truly keeps one warm. Most people do not buy fashion for purely ecological reasons, they buy because it is a good value, practical and looks great on them. The eco is the icing.” Wild-Wool accessories sell for $22-$225.

Reebok To Give Eco-Friendly Shirts for Super Bowl Winner

Rather than invest heavily on expensive placement ads, Reebok has focused on distributing “eco-friendly, 100 percent organic cotton fabric” shirts to the members of the winning team of the Super Bowl.

“These new, eco-friendly Tees are available for a limited time at select retail outlets. Fans interested in purchasing the shirts may log on to Reebok.com, NFLshop.com, or visit their local sporting goods retailer immediately following Super Bowl XLIII.”

Reebok To Give Eco-Friendly Shirts for Super Bowl Winner

This may not be the conventional way of making a statement but the models did it; stripping down naked to make their cause known. Such a brainchild was the work of the action group, “More Than Pretty Knickers” to get people to wear eco-friendly underwear.

Undergarments are not spared from contributing towards the harmful effects to the environment. Materials used and the process of manufacturing them are certain to have questionable green awareness attached to them. And apparently, it took some models to make that point known.

The movie says pants leave a hug carbon footprint being freighted around the globe so shoppers should check the labels to see where their pants are from.

It also claims cotton farming is notorious for excessive use of poisonous pesticides and 20,000 people die every year from pesticide poisoning in developing countries.

Cotton is bleached and dyed at factories with chemicals that not only badly damage the environment if not disposed of responsibly but also cause chronic respiratory and cardiovascular problems, throat inflammation, chest pain and congestion in workers exposed to them.

Finally it can take up to 20,000 litres of fresh water to grow just one kilogram of cotton, depleting local supplies.

Who would have thought that cigarette butts would be put to good use? With many smokers in the world despite a call to quit smoking, cigarette butts can be useful after all. Thanks to the ingenious mind of fashion designer Alexandra Guerrero, cigarette butts turned into fashionable clothing has become a success and a new idea towards the drive for eco-friendly ideas.

After seeing the positive results and large interest generated, Alexandra decided to turn the project into a business. After purifying the butts (she collects them from the streets), the material is combined with wool to form a raw, textured wool, which can be knit into a variety of garments.

Prices range from $50 for a beret, $125 for the adorable sweater and, our favorite, $110 for the dress.
