In a change of marketing strategy, UK’s first eco-friendly milk will reportedly change its GreenBottle labeling made of unique concept using recycled office waste paper to create a durable outer container, with a removable inner bag full of milk, supplied by local dairy MaryBelle.

The label design was actually a brainchild by 13-year-olds Dania Brewer and Charlie Besant. These were plucked out by the inventors of GreenBottle and will hit the shelves at Asda in Lowestoft.

A new batch of GreenBottle will be available in Asda at Horn Hill from with Dania and Charlie’s label attached and it is hoped the milk will be rolled out across stores in East Anglia.

One thing about delivering goods to vital distribution areas is transporting them through rigs and trucks. We all know for a fact that the emissions that these large trucks let out contribute towards the growing concern of pollution and health concerns. For Fonterra, picking up milk from the farms can be seen as one of these harmful contributors but all that is about to change.

Fonterra is now trialling the use of eco-friendly tankers that is aimed at cutting emissions in the company’s 427 strong fleet which covers about 75 million km every year. This will not only help in decreasing the growing problem of pollution issues but also provide additional savings for the company as far as fuel needs is concerned.

Not a bad way to improve business and do that little part for greenhouse gas and carbon emission issues today.

Fonterra’s General Manager Milk Collection, Mike Foureur, says the trial of the DAF Euro 4 tanker with the latest Selected Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology would evaluate the performance and suitability of the trucks. They are expected to cut nitrous oxide (N20) emissions by 30% and particulates emissions by more than 80%. Fuel efficiency gains of up to 5% over Exhaust Gas Reticulation (EGR) technology will also be tested with the new-generation engines.

Mr Foureur said efficiency gains in Fonterra’s milk collection over the past two seasons, from the introduction of an automated scheduling system, Genesis, and other initiatives had enabled six tankers to be taken out of the fleet – even though peak-day milk volumes have continued to rise.
