CNG Fueling Station Launched

PetrolCard has announced the opening of a “Clean N’ Green Fuel” compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling station in South Seattle, the first public-access CNG facility in the city. For businesses and consumers with CNG-compatible vehicles, the facility offers a readily available, affordable, and environmentally friendly fuel. The station, which is open 24/7 accepts all major credit cards and PetroCard fleet cards, and sells CNG at prices typically one-third below gasoline and diesel.

CNG is sold in gasoline gallon equivalents (GGEs), with each GGE having the same energy content as a gallon of gasoline. Vehicles using CNG typically have similar or better fuel economy ratings than standard gasoline or diesel vehicles, and today CNG is approximately one-third lower in price. The Clean N’ Green Fuel station will sell CNG to business fleets, including Waste Management, as well as individuals with CNG equipped vehicles. Current pricing at the station is in the range of $1.70-$1.80/GGE.

Beer Leftovers as Fuel

We have seen a lot of alternative fuel solutions these days but no one ever thought that beer could end up as one of them. Thanks to this contraption acquired by Sierra Nevada, the MicroFueler can gas up any car with left over beer.

Sierra Nevada, brewer of delicious beers, has purchased a MicroFueler, a contraption that produces ethanol from water, sugar and yeast. Yeast also happens to be a major byproduct of beer fermentation, allowing them to make fuel out of beer leftovers.

Eric Massa Arriving in Fuel Cell Car

On whether his intent is to gain attention or simply to help promote green awareness, Eric Massa, congressman-elect left from the Southeast Steuben County Library will be arriving in Washington D.C. on a GM Hydrogen fuel cell car to the capital building. Now that is quite an entrance and a statement as far as his stand on eco-friendly transportation.

Massa aims to affirm his support for building sustainable vehicles, perhaps due to environmental concerns and to uphold the importance of domestically made car vehicles. Massa will be officially sworn into office this Tuesday.

“I wanted to highlight the strengths that we have right here in Upstate New York to build the new industries and the new jobs we’re going to need in the future,” said Massa.

For its continued drive at curbing carbon emissions, ENOC has reportedly released a couple of new eco-friendly lubricants that can help drivers lower their carbon footprints. The new oil products will be available in various gas stations at the United Arab Emirates and given time, if they are successful, we may soon see them reaching our local regions.

Emirates National Oil Company has unveiled two new environmental-friendly products, Protec Green engine oil for petrol engines and the Vulcan Green oil for diesel engines which will be made available at all Enoc and Eppco service stations in Dubai.

Ok i realize the headline was abit on the dramatic side. But listen to this. Paula Deen hooked up with Smithfield Foods, one of the biggest (and worst) pork manufacturers in the nation.

Her intentions were noble. This is all in the name of charity as the goal was to donate over 25,000 pounds of ham to a local pantry. I can understand her attempt at helping those who are hungry and she gets a nice big fat A for effort. But she could easily have donated loads more food in the form of veggies. Meat is so expensive and such an environmental hazard.

It takes tons less energy and water to produce corn, rice, and other foods than it does to raise animals for meat. When will people realize the many hazards associated with growing meat? Surely Paula has picked up a magazine or two in the last five years, and has been schooled in the matter.

Again i appreciate the intention and motive, but c-mon do you have any idea how many PIGS had to die for this noble act? I will spare you.

But i will tell you this, Smithfield Foods kills 30 million pigs each year. Ouch! That is horrendous.

We have seen much of the weirdest yet better concept cars possible and the Insecta is surely something that lives up to its name. From the looks of it, it does indeed look like a bug on wheels but the way it runs and how controls are held be an onboard computer is perhaps what makes it green.

It is flexible and is a great concept. However, it would be best to see if it can be improved and manufactured in such a way where people can really use it for everyday transportation purposes.

Ford Offers Eco-Driving

Ford knows what it takes to drive wiser and while many drivers today are expected to share their own versions, you have to take your hats off to the car manufacturing giant for offering eco-driving lessons for people to save on fuel and drive wisely.

The fuel consumption of cars is varied. But sometimes, it may depend on who is stepping on the gas pedal. We are all comfortable with a specific way of driving our cars but the proper way is always something that will be debatable.

Ford does its part in teaching drivers the eco way of driving and if you have the time, you may want to see what things you can improve on your driving to be a more fuel efficient driver.

EcoDriving, which Ford said it developed from German drivers’ education, combines many simple fuel-conserving tips with the type of instruction one normally receives in performance driving school. Ford offered a four-day trial course in Phoenix and got volunteers to improve their fuel economy by an average of 24 percent. It cut down the program to one afternoon to provide us a taste of how EcoDriving works.

Ford Offers Eco-Driving

Gasohol Offered in Vietnam

The timing could not have been better as far as providing alternative solutions to the oil requirements. We all know for a fact that fuel prices are dipping ($91 and falling the last I heard) but this does not mean that the search for alternative fuel should be stopped. In fact, the more alternative fuel that is available then the better it is for the market. For Vietnam, combining Ethanol and Petrol seems to be working for them as this is being distributed named Gasohol E5 by Hanoi.

PV Oil, a PetroVietnam subsidiary, announced on Monday that Gasohol E5 will be provided on a pilot basis in the districts of Dong Da and Cau Giay at VND16,500 ($1) per liter – VND500 and VND1,000 cheaper than A92 and A95 petrol respectively.

Gasohol E5, which is five percent ethanol and 95 percent gasoline, is produced by the PetroVietnam Biofuel Joint Stock Co., an affiliate of PV Oil. This fuel is cost-effective, eco-friendly and safe for engines, PV Oil says.

Old Bus Rolls Out the Eco-Friendly Way

No one would perhaps consider the idea of modifying and transforming an old school bus and turning into something devoted to eco-friendliness. For one, not many people would go to the trouble of dedicating their time in going with the flow of the proper way to capitalize what global warming is all about. All except for one and his name is musician Chris Merkley who transformed an old school bus into a virtual eco-friendly tour bus.

“I did a lot of research up front to get a general idea of what would go into the bus and then I’ve been narrowing in on more specific topics as I get there, like with the insulation, studied up on heat transfer and everything associated with that just to try to understand the science of it before deciding what products would be best for it,”

Just when you thought everyone had given up hope as far as setting foot on the Antarctic regions, some groups have come up with an eco-friendly vehicle that can assist explorers of the icy regions. This eco-friendly ice car is said to run on biofuel and that there are no worries about it starting in the cold either – it works at temperatures as low as -72ºC (-98ºF).

While this may seem like a good vehicle to use, I guess the best question that should be answered for now is on whether anyone would have interest to explore Antarctica at this point. Further, would this eco-friendly ice car have anything to go on considering that the ice caps are melting and getting smaller.

Ineos Plan to Turn Waste to Bioethanol

What do you do with excess garbage that landfills can no longer accommodate? For most, the immediate answer would be to recycle them. But for Ineos, turning waste into fuel is similar to turning trash to gold.

By 2011, this is what Ineos predicts to happen. They are planning to put up a large scale waste to energy facility which will ultimately produce bioethanol and help address the growing fuel problem the world is experiencing at the moment.

Ineos claims that its bioethanol, which can either be blended with petrol or replace it altogether, reduces greenhouse gases by 90% and avoids using food crops in the production process.

Mr Williams said: “The fact that we have been able to decouple second generation biofuel from food is a major breakthrough, and we expect our technology to provide cost competitive, sustainable, renewable fuels.

Pollution is one of the contributing aspects of the greenhouse gases issue and while many have advised and come up with varying degrees of addressing this issue, nothing has really been seen to resolve pollution from driving.

Now the fuel and oil price issues are helping a lot but just the same it remains that there should be more solutions to address the growing pollution problems the world is experiencing right now.

Many may call this idea from Germany as old school. But if it helps address the greenhouse issues for their country then perhaps it can do the same for other parts of the world.

“Travolution blazes the trail for innovative traffic management of a magnitude unique in Germany. The result is a functioning prototype for the traffic control of the future,” said Dr. Werner Widuckel, Audi Board Member for Human Resources. Aside from Audi, participants include the city of Ingolstadt’s Office for Traffic Management and Geoinformation, the Professorial Chair for Traffic Engineering at the Technical University of Munich, and GEVAS software GmbH.

The system that was presented today is used at 46 traffic lights in the municipal area of Ingolstadt. In this process, software optimizes the entire network of traffic lights, significantly reducing the duration of stopping times for cars.

An additional part of the project is called “The informed driver.” For this, three traffic lights have been equipped with communications modules that send the time for the next green phase to the car’s on-board computer. Audi has made an Audi A5 and an A6 Avant available as test vehicles for this part of the project. The drivers of these cars are informed through the Audi MMI infotainment system at what speed they should travel in order to drive through the intersection without having to stop.

Envirofit Cook Stoves

Zero Emission London Cabs in 2012

We all know that among the contributors towards pollution and harmful emissions are public utility vehicles such as cabs all over the world. An immediate solution would be to ticket the or ban them but that would be like taking out majority of the modes of public transportation for people on the go.

With that in mind, Lotus, a known maker of finest speed machines, has vowed to shift their focus on green motoring and are planning eco-friendly taxi cabs roving the streets of London by 2012.

The design will use an electric motor, powered by a hydrogen fuel cell. By 2014, Lotus says it’ll be introducing it to other cities.

Testing on the new cars is due to start in the next 18 months, while Lotus also works with Jaguar on a separate project, to create an eco-friendly limousine.

It’s intended that the green limo will crank out carbon dioxide emissions below 120g per kilometre, using a petrol engine and special electric motor.
