Tropical Storm “Ondoy” Causes Floods in the Philippines

In case you don’t know, the Philippines is always a prime candidate for floods each time the rainy season hits. The usual regions are prepared for it but certainly not the places such as the National Capital Region where flooding was manageable. That is not the case today when tropical storm “Ondoy” brought havoc to the Philippines, leaving lots of people stranded and people in low areas climbing to the roofs to avoid the watery wrath of this storm.

No one forecasted that this tropical depression would be this bad. The rains poured all night until today causing monstrous traffic jams and people fleeing for higher ground. In fact a lot of people went to their home’s rooftops for dryer ground, groping in the dark since power was shut down in the flood-ravaged cities of Manila and its neighboring provinces.

Mobile communication was erratic and many people are asking for help. The sudden need for rafts and rubber boats were being clamored along with prayers that the rains would stop. This day, the Filipino community get a courtesy call on what global warming and climate change is really all about. After these floods subside, will the Filipino people finally wake up to reality that these events are just a glimpse of what global warming can do if it is not addressed soon? This is a wakeup call and certainly eyes have been opened.

If you look at it, this is a great alternative that addresses the growing issue of health and the environment. It may be far from the actual cigarette but the thing here is that toxins which are bad for your health the environment have been taken out to still provide the actual smoking mannerism that smokers have gotten used to. It is worth a try!

Ghent Belgium To Go Vegetarian Once A Week

Interesting story coming from across the pond in Ghent, Belgium. The city announced a few days ago it will go vegetarian once a week because of environmental reasons.

They mention in a news story that civil servants, councillors along with local politicians will be the first to begin the city program, followed by school children in September. That is quite progressive, good for Ghent.

Since the UN last Summer researched and concluded that raising
livestock accounts for more than one-fifth of global gas emissions, the city of Ghent hopes that by going veggie (even if only weekly) will lessen its carbon footprint and help with a growing obesity problem.

It’s exciting to see such progress coming from such a small city as Ghent. Raising animals for food is bad for the planet, for the animals,and is terribly expensive. We salute Ghent and hope other cities nearby follow suit.

Would £2,000 be sufficient enough for you to get a new car in place of your old one? That seems to be the question in the air as the United Kingdom has commenced where cars 10 years and older can be traded in for the car scrappage them at £2,000.

Depending of course on the type of car you will be getting, you just have to do some pencil pushing. New cars don’t come cheap despite the price cuts and discount deals that car manufacturers are undertaking to survive.

“There are so many good deals out there on pre-registered nearly-new stock that actually it’s easier to find a car with a bigger discount under these pre-registered deals than it is under the scrappage scheme,” said Kieran Puffett, editor of Parker’s.

One can’t truly be green and eat meat, the two just don’t go hand in hand. Meat (or the raising of animals for meat) is one of the most destructive practices ever invented.

Animal agriculture and specifically factory farming are
vicious on Mother Earth, not to mention the animals. But since around the 1950’s Americans have been programmed not only to LOVE meat, but to think they NEED it.

We can debate the NEED for meat till the cows come home,but one can’t deny the hell on Earth animal rearing is causing on our planet. One way to combat this eco nightmare and or reduce it, is by reducing or eliminating the consumption of meat.

You can start by reducing it. Phase meat out gradually, why not start with the awesome new initiative over at the Huffington Post site titled “Meatless in May”.

As it sounds, the idea is to not eat meat for one month. One month – can you do it? Sure you can.

Start by reading up on meatless options and yes you do have options, plenty actually. Meat doesn’t have to be the center of each and every entree – think OUTSIDE the box – and you will discover an oasis of delicious, healthy, and fun meal ideas. With Earth Day but two days away, one way to celebrate is by attending a local activity or event.

How To Find Earth Day Events Near You

The Earth Day website is a great resource for finding local Earth Day events and activities near you. You can search via keyword, by date or by location. When the list populates, you get access to a Google map and full event details, such as hours, activities planned, and the ability to register directly on the site.

NOTE: I conducted a search for an Earth Day event in my local zip code and found a few events, but what would be really cool is to be able to use both the (location and date) search feature together. This way when you do a search by location only events still active and or upcoming show up.

Keep in mind many different organizations, clubs, schools, businesses and associations are celebrating the 40th Annual Earth Day. So finding something interesting, smart, cool, family-friendly, or fun should not be too hard.

Here’s hoping you find what you’re looking for, to get your green on…in 2009!

How To Find Earth Day Events Near You

Disney Launches First Earth Film

Walt Disney has announced the first earth film under their Disneynature Films label, Earth. The launch of the said film is right on time for Earth Day on April 22, 2009. The family-friendly 90-minute documentary film follows the life of three animal families as they move around the world.

The stars of the film are families of polar bears, humpback whales and elephants. The film took an estimated 2,000 days to shoot in more than 200 locations around the globe.

The movie is a joint project between Disney and the successful BBC TV series Planet Earth. Alastair Fothergill, director of the BBC TV series is also co-director, along with Mark Linfield, of the Disney Earth film. “The film has a very strong environmental message” .

We Have A Hundred Months To Save The Planet

A hundred months may not sound that long, it is in fact just under eight and half years in earth time, that is not that long at all. It seems that is all we have to save the earth according to Prince Charles while on his ten day visit to South America.

The Prince is there to highlight the problems facing the planet due to climate change, he will be visiting Brazil, Chile, Ecuador and of course, the Galapagos Islands, some people may say that perhaps the Prince should be looking at his own carbon foot print!

However, this is a serious issue, during a recession one of the first things that goes is green living, sales of organic have fallen and households are using more energy because they are staying in more.

Because we cannot always see air, it is difficult to know exactly what we are breathing in. Obviously we can see smoke and fumes, but there are some very unpleasant gases and chemicals around that are invisible.

Air Scale is a tool that can be used to check the air quality. It lets the user know if there are any problems by changing colour; green is clean, blue is ok and red means dirty or run like hell. It is a good idea but can be a little frightening if you are sitting in car stuck in traffic and the Air Scale is red!

It must be hard for people in the public eye when they start a quest, especially when they plan to go on an eco friendly tour of South America. Their every move is scrutinized with a fine GREEN toothed comb. When heir to the throne Prince Charles travels to the warm subcontinent this April, rest assured his every move won’t go unnoticed.

This tour, which is supposed to make the locals aware of global warming, requires sole use of a private jet to cover the 16,400 mile journey in ten days. As such, this global warming awareness trip will produce around 322 tons of Co2 and cost an estimated £431,900. Would it be more effective if he stayed at home and spread the message from there? Or just waste the fuel and continue traveling around?

HRH Creates Massive Carbon Footprint On Eco Tour

This is another entry to get through the final fifty of the Greener Gadgets Design Competition and a good one it is, the Environmental Traffic Light monitors the surrounding area for Co2 levels, humidity, air pressure and others too in order to give people an idea of the air quality at that time.

The post can be erected almost anywhere and it has displays similar to those that pedestrians use to know when it is safe to cross the road. Except these displays show what is in the atmosphere in the surrounding area. This is useful information but the displays are far too small and really, this sort of equipment should place by busy intersections for all to see.

London awakes to Polar Bear on the Thames

It sounds so amazing that it could have true, in fact an iceberg floating down the river Thames is not a normal occurrence, at least I have never seen it before. However, an iceberg with a stranded polar bear and its cub on, well it just has to be a great piece of PR.

Of course this is the launch of a new natural history TV channel called Eden and the iceberg apart from giving the channel some great publicity, is intended to make people aware of climate change. It took fifteen artists two months to construct.

Chicago Recycling Centers Set To Close, Economy To Blame

Get ready for this, Chicago recycling centers are set to close as the demand from China on recycables drops to an all time low.

This is a prime example of how the US economy rocks the boat and truly causes major damage to ordinary US citizens. As we are in bed with China, we need them as they need us. But right now as everyone knows we are the ones who are in bad shape.

What Happened?

Back when the Olympics were happening, several major China factories halted production because of poor air quality, yet they still kept on purchasing recyclables to the point of over purchase. So they stopped buying more in the last few months, and demand dropped along with the rates paid for it.

This has seriously affected recycling centers in Chicago. Im not sure about other cities, but in Chicago the buyback rate for certain types of materials (such as newspaper and cardboard) has plummeted from $120 a ton to a paltry $20 a ton. That is a major major blow to the centers.

Chicago recycling center employees say only a miracle and or grant donations can keep the centers open now. Truly devastating news to Chicago area citizens on the north and south sides.

Economic growth is projected in late 2009, but the recycling market by then is going to take an ugly hit.

Ok i realize the headline was abit on the dramatic side. But listen to this. Paula Deen hooked up with Smithfield Foods, one of the biggest (and worst) pork manufacturers in the nation.

Her intentions were noble. This is all in the name of charity as the goal was to donate over 25,000 pounds of ham to a local pantry. I can understand her attempt at helping those who are hungry and she gets a nice big fat A for effort. But she could easily have donated loads more food in the form of veggies. Meat is so expensive and such an environmental hazard.

It takes tons less energy and water to produce corn, rice, and other foods than it does to raise animals for meat. When will people realize the many hazards associated with growing meat? Surely Paula has picked up a magazine or two in the last five years, and has been schooled in the matter.

Again i appreciate the intention and motive, but c-mon do you have any idea how many PIGS had to die for this noble act? I will spare you.

But i will tell you this, Smithfield Foods kills 30 million pigs each year. Ouch! That is horrendous.

Webasto Unveils BlueCool for Cooler Trucking

Truck drivers will always have their share of dealing with the weather changes and driving a large truck under the prickly heat will always be a discomfort. Add to the fact that they have to deal with the toxins and fumes from their usually diesel run trucks and you may be imperiling their overall health as well. But that was yesterday.

Today, an old technology claimed to be renewed is being offered by Webasto, a trucking company that makes equipment. The piece of equipment is called the BlueCool which helps circulate cooler temperature from the unit all the way to the bunk area.

When the truck is stopped, the driver turns on an air handler that circulates coolant around the ice and blows cold air from the unit into the bunk area of the cab. The fan and circulation pump use only 3.5 to 10 amps from the truck’s battery — which means there’s no danger of draining the battery, Webasto says.

No one would perhaps consider the idea of modifying and transforming an old school bus and turning into something devoted to eco-friendliness. For one, not many people would go to the trouble of dedicating their time in going with the flow of the proper way to capitalize what global warming is all about. All except for one and his name is musician Chris Merkley who transformed an old school bus into a virtual eco-friendly tour bus.

This time around, even the standard gas-powered home mowers need to watch out as there are new emission rules that will be enforced to lower the emissions that they cause each time home owners decide to have their lawns trimmed.

Beginning in 2011, new gas-powered lawn and garden equipment of less than 25 horsepower will be required to reduce emissions by 35 percent, and all gas-powered recreational boats must reduce emissions by 70 percent in 2010, according to new EPA regulations

There are two things that people want to resolve today: get proper ventilation against crazy climate changes and reduce energy consumption. Air conditioning is at its peak during hot days and apparently thanks to climate change, we no longer know when that is. In fact, if before you knew which months that your air conditioner would be less utilized, now you have to consider using it extensively.

So how do people address this? Well there is the usual ceiling fans which may solve this problem. Known to be lesser in energy consumption, they have their ways of providing the proper room temperature in your home. Some homes have them while others are contemplating on it. After reading this, do not be surprised if you find yourself rushing to the nearest store to get one and install it immediately.

Ceiling fans reduce energy consumption by decreasing the use of air conditioning. In summer, they create a downdraft which increases the rate of evaporation of moisture on the skin. In the winter, they de-stratify the air, displacing the heated layer that rises to the ceiling with cooler air from the lower levels of the room.

Fans are operated with a clockwise rotation in the winter to create an updraft and counter clockwise direction in the summer to create downdraft. This direction is determined as you look up at the fan.

The amount of air movement is a function of the size of the blades and their pitch, which varies from about

12 to 20 degrees, says Goemans. Other factors include the distance from the ceiling and between the blades, as well as the length of the blades to the size of the room.

We all know for a fact that climate change and global warming issues are still in the air and while many are trying desperately to save what is left of our world, you just have to face facts. Summer is just around the corner and this means another wave of heat and warm days ahead.

Up in the North Pole, this may be bad news. The continuous melting of the polar ice caps may soon allow ships to pass through, totally annihilating the once impossible land filled with ice. But if you think you can pass through and see the polar bears or penguins up close again, think again. They may have drowned already by the time you can get a ship to pass there.

The potential landmark thaw – the first time in human history the pole would be ice-free – is a stark sign of global warming, according to an article Friday on the web site of the The Independent, a London newspaper.

We all know that among the contributors towards pollution and harmful emissions are public utility vehicles such as cabs all over the world. An immediate solution would be to ticket the or ban them but that would be like taking out majority of the modes of public transportation for people on the go.

With that in mind, Lotus, a known maker of finest speed machines, has vowed to shift their focus on green motoring and are planning eco-friendly taxi cabs roving the streets of London by 2012.

The design will use an electric motor, powered by a hydrogen fuel cell. By 2014, Lotus says it’ll be introducing it to other cities.

Testing on the new cars is due to start in the next 18 months, while Lotus also works with Jaguar on a separate project, to create an eco-friendly limousine.

It’s intended that the green limo will crank out carbon dioxide emissions below 120g per kilometre, using a petrol engine and special electric motor.

Both these occurrences, global warming and the continuing oil price surge have been economic catastrophes that most people have to deal with. It has been getting harder to live in this world today and apparently each effort seems to be getting futile by the day. With these things in mind, where does the government fit in?

There are two ways to look at it. One is to see how government can benefit from it. Additional taxes and of course connecting them with global warming for a justifiable declaration. No one would bother to check in depth although the economists would do their own pencil pushing.

The other is of course the hands-off policy to which the government will wait for everything to settle and then make its move. Either way, the government will benefit while also taking credit from it once the worst is over for these two dilemmas besetting us today.

Our government is jumping aboard the global warming bandwagon in a big way. Ignoring any facts to the contrary, they continue to fuel a juggernaut that will result in more government, more taxes, more ‘crises’ and more useful idiots. Even Republicans are on board, with John McCain turning green with a twist guaranteed to garner liberal votes. He’s proposed a ‘cap and trade’ system (called redistribution of wealth) to help battle climate change. It used to be only liberals who had the hubris to think man can control climate.

To be able to consume food, they have to be made first. Sure we buy them from the nearby groceries and stores but before they get there, there is the due process of manufacturing them that is the real deal in determining if they are catering towards green standard practices.

Most of the issues here cover the areas of the use of energy and greenhouse gases to make those machineries function properly. Add them all together and you will understand why most people are contributing to this growing pain called global warming.

“Eighteen percent more food energy is required in many populations where there is a large prevalence of obesity,” he said, citing a 460-calorie increase in daily food intake for an obese individual. “There is a clear impact in terms of greenhouse gas emissions in order to grow that food.”

If you haven’t noticed, the warm climate that has been hitting various parts of the world like Australia and various parts of Asia like the Philippines are not your usual heat waves that come in seasons like summer. While most of us think that they are only normal they are not. They are products of the global warming issue which has been made popular by Al Gore.

All the things we do to harm our environment like pollution and improper waste management have been key ingredients towards the global warming recipe. We may not associate it now but global warming is a reality.

Many people feel that this would be a good time the beaches but be sure to apply added amounts of sun blocks. Getting a tan is one thing but suffering from the heat in the form of sunburn or heat stroke is not as simple as most of us deem it to be. Global warming is a clear culprit in the worsening climate we all have to deal with so be wiser when you go out!

Climate change is plain to see in southern Australia. After 10 years of seriously below average rainfalls, folks have had to adapt: There is a weekly two-hour outdoor water restriction. Residents collect every bit of what little rain they get. They have re-landscaped their yards with indigenous plants and given up English-style gardens. It is no longer a question of whether to get an 11,000-gallon cistern for rain collection – the question now is how many.

We just spent a day driving around Victoria, going up mountains (small ones) with vast lookouts over dry barren land. I am told that in the springtime the land is green for a few weeks, but right now that is hard to imagine. Every land holder determines the lowest point on their land and collects water in a small dugout pond. However, this prevents the water from flowing into creeks, so it was no surprise to find all of the creeks bone dry. What few rivers we did drive over had stagnant puddles of water with tiers of grass between them – no flowing water was anywhere to be seen.

This is a good direction towards teaching the young tykes of today the right way of living. Some may call the Blue Alert by Greenpeace as fictitious but it can happen if our current situations are any indication. Global warming works both ways. It is melting the ice caps and also causing problems as far as trying to survive the abnormal temperature we are experiencing anywhere today. With due emphasis on the first issue, the continuous rise in temperature can be likened to melting ice in our refrigerators. Every year there is a 5 degree increase in temperature and if the polar ice caps are any indication, it is not only the creatures up there who will have problems. All of us are.

Ice turns to water and once that happens, we can see that the very land we are stepping on will slowly be whittled down due to excess fluids. So with nothing to step on, where do we go? So if you see the polar bears and penguins up there having nothing to set foot on, just wait a couple of years more. You may find yourself in the very same situation.

According to a report titled Blue Alert by Greenpeace, if present trends are any indication, there will be a five-degree increase in temperature over the next hundred years.

This will submerge large areas and displace around fifty million people in India alone. A policy change, the report says, can still avert a two-degree rise in less than a decade.

Being anywhere in the world today, anyone is bound to notice that the change in the scheduled weather we are experiencing is really something abnormal. Summer has been delayed by a couple of months and while this was expected, you will notice that the change in weather has been worsening.

The heat wave is something that may be new to most people. Many enjoy it because it means going to the beach. But the current warm weather is something you should be cautious about. Heat stroke and dangerous degrees of sunburn may ensue if you are not careful to use the needed lotions to protect you from the prickly heat.

Changing weather patterns are giving world leaders plenty to think about. Apparently this will be the topic for discussion when most of the world powers will be holding a weekend meeting outside Tokyo to discuss the global warming epidemic. While it is more than charity overall, it really caters more towards helping resolve the global warming issue that continues to become a growing pain for all of us.

“We want to see that this is not a matter of charity,” he said, adding that pollution caused by wealthy nations has caused the crisis that poorer nations now have to grapple with.

The conference starting Saturday is part of a dialogue launched at the2005 summit of the Group of Eight industrialized countries in Gleneagles, Scotland. Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair was scheduled to address the group at the opening session.

The meeting was part of the flurry of dialogues and conferences in recent months centring on efforts to stem the rise in world temperatures before it triggers devastating environmental damage

Japan based automobile tycoon Toyota has recently unveiled its compact 4-seater car, the iQ at the Geneva Auto Show last Tuesday. It is tagged to be the smallest 4-seater car in the world but what people should really take note of it is its ability to run on a small fuel-efficient engine and emit lesser carbon emissions outdoors.

Each unit costs $20,000.00 and is sure to be another hit vehicle from Toyota.

Andrea Formica, the company’s senior vice president for Europe announced that the iQ is the ‘world’s smallest four-seater car’, measuring just 2,985 millimeters long.

To achieve such tight packaging, Toyota’s engineers have come up with a clever cabin system that allows three adults and one child to sit in comfort, despite the iQ’s diminutive, almost Smart car dimensions

Who is Going to be the Political Savior of Global Warming?

While most people are guessing (or are they?) who the next president will be, it all boils down to Obama and Clinton. But while these two are the leading candidates for the eventual presidential situation, many are awaiting who among them would be the first to address the entire global warming situation that the United States is facing along with the whole world.

Apparently, most of the world today has global warming issues to cater to. And while most people find it difficult to address, little contributions and bills passed here and there have tried to go in that direction. But as a whole, the US still has to decide which issue they will finally pass to really give a steady path towards fighting off the global warming issue that we are currently being threatened with. Obama or Clinton?

If we ignore global warming much longer, we’ll face a world of perpetual disaster, so there’s no larger question for presidential candidates than who is more likely to tackle it successfully. Although Obama’s and Clinton’s positions are similar, he seems far more likely to. The key difference is their ability to mobilize a grassroots base to demand that the necessary changes get passed.

The first batch of eco-friendly buses will be released in Marin Transit District routes after the approval of the purchase of 35-seat hybrid buses. Once they operate, expect an improvement as far as public transport is concerned.

A small fleet of environment-friendly buses will soon be rolling on Marin Transit District routes, after the district board Monday approved plans to purchase seven, 35-seat hybrid buses for $4.3 million.

Apparently, melting the ice is not enough reason for sea life in Antarctica to thing about. While we know that the normal creatures like the penguins and the polar bears may soon have no more ice land to walk, you have to consider that outside drowning, the dangerous creatures of the deep known as sharks may soon be wandering along the murky waters.

The main reason here is the climate change. The cold climate is a main reason why sharks do not frequent the Antarctic region. But thanks to global warming, the imminent threat, such a change in temperature has become all the opening that they need to expand their territorial exploration and find new prey to feed on.

“As a result, the Antarctic seafloor has been dominated by relatively soft-bodied, slow-moving invertebrates, just as in ancient oceans prior to the evolution of shell-crushing predators,” she told a news conference Friday on the sidelines of the conference.

But global warming has already pushed temperatures up by one to two degrees in the past 50 years, and the waters could become hospitable to sharks within the next 100 years, she said.

“The water only needs to remain above freezing year round for it to become habitable to some sharks, and at the rate we’re going, that could happen this century,” Wilga said.

“Once they get there, it will completely change the ecology of the Antarctic benthic community,” she said.

King Penguins on the Brink of Extinction

Thanks to global warming those lovable creatures we see on television, the King Penguins, are now on the verge of impending extinction thanks to global warming that has been hitting the Antarctic region. A lot has to do with the declining sea temperatures to which they are not used to. Because of this, they are forced to travel farther for food and seek the proper climate to soothe their needs.

Their numbers are declining and unless some alternative means to help save them is done, we may see them as a thing of the past.

“We wanted to see what effect climate change was having on the breeding and survival of the penguins,” said lead study author Yvon Le Maho, research director at the National Center for Scientific Research in Strasbourg, France.

The study appears today in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Biofuel Crops Inviting Global Warming Trouble?

As far as finding alternatives towards energy resources is concerned, biofuels are indeed aimed at helping this area of concern. But as far as addressing global warming as a whole is concerned, there may have been some overlooked aspects such as carbon emissions that may worsen our pollution problem.

Apparently, the efforts to address one concern of green living is commendable. However, we should also consider the little things associated with the whole problem and these in turn may negate the effort for a better environment.

“Our study found that any biofuel that causes clearing of natural ecosystems will increase global warming,” Joe Fargione, a scientist for The Nature Conservancy, told CTV.ca.

“This is the first study to fully account for the effects of land clearing.”

Fargione said the carbon lost by converting forests, grasslands and peatlands outweighs the carbons saved by using the resulting biofuels instead of fossil fuels.

As far as the state of the planet is concerned, we can all look at ourselves once we want to find out who is to blame is concerned. We have been experiencing changes in our weather and while we may find ourselves in urban places that may seem far from harm, we have to consider the Arctic regions which cannot have the same flexibility as far as climate changes are concerned.

Notching up the temperature can prove to be dangerous and once that happens, it will show us a certain degree of climate change disturbance. Indeed, it does seem risky but in the end, consumers will still be the culprit of it all.

Most of the problems we have today are man-made and while our efforts to turn to green living may be laudable, it still remains that we would not be in this place if we had already made preliminary presumptions regarding the whole matter.

If global inflation starts to go up at this junction, the world economy is likely to jump from the frying pan into the fire.

On balance, the conclusion of a successful climate change regime, measures to combat global warming and the reduction the emission of green house gases must not undermine growth.

A plausible solution would be to hive off a portion of growth and turn it away from consumption to anti-pollution measures without distorting competitive advantages or undermining globalisation. The Polluter Pays Principle meets this requirement – what needs to be done now is to develop the magic formula to apply it on the global stage.

Polar Bear Species Endangered

Polar bears, those furry white creatures usually stocked up in the Arctic have long been tagged as endangered and while official announcements are to be made soon, it is not really surprising. Rather, the more serious issue is how to help them rather than watch them drown.

Technically, it has been man made. They are not the hunted game animals but the continuous disregard of man on the effects of his actions towards global warming through pollution has made it evident that the polar ice caps are indeed melting. And while they are out somewhere relaxing, the heat is up there and the actual victims are the polar bears which are now joining the list of animals on the endangered list.

The LA Times says the ruling on the bear’s endangered status could come as soon as this week, perhaps making it the “first species to be listed as threatened with extinction primarily because of global warming. It also says that groups representing oil and gas industry parties are threatening their own legal actions should the bear actually be listed.

“The greatest and clearest threat is to the Arctic with summer sea ice loss likely to occur long before, and potentially contribute to, Greenland ice sheet melt,” they wrote in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

“Tipping elements in the tropics, the boreal zone, and west Antarctica are surrounded by large uncertainty,” they wrote, pointing to more potential abrupt shifts than seen in a 2007 report by the U.N. Climate Panel.

If you are experiencing abnormal weather and getting that feeling of like living in an oven waiting to be roasted, chances are you will immediately lean towards global warming as the probable cause. Actually you are right and with studies performed as the one done by American Geophysical Union.

Apparently weather conditions are just getting worse and even if we are doing our own small initiatives, it is pretty obvious that we need more practices to address this growing problem that has been irritating and making our lives inconvenient.

Well, we only have ourselves to blame and hopefully ignorant people will start feeling the heat and join the global warming preventive measures to help get our world back on track.

The persistent and dramatic decline in the snowpack of many mountains in the West is caused primarily by human-induced global warming and is not the result of natural variability in weather patterns, researchers reported yesterday.

Using data collected over the past 50 years, the scientists confirmed that the mountains are getting more rain and less snow, that the snowpack is breaking up faster and that more rivers are running dry by summer.

As far as putting a stop to the growing concern on greenhouse gases, it can be done by penalizing people from their continued disregard for the safety of people today. It can be done and through proper implementation of guidelines and modes of violation, people may become weary of the greenhouse gas issues that we are all complaining about.

Once these new ordinances or policies are in place, we may even see a drastic decline in greenhouse gas problems we experience today. Tax implementations on them are sure to make people be more cautious afterwards.

“Greenhouse gases are treated today as though they can be produced and
emitted without any cost. Green taxes should be introduced for industries and
consumers to establish a visible price for carbon dioxide as a way of slowing
the growth of – and then reducing – emissions,” said Glen Hodgson, Senior
Vice-President and Chief Economist. “A national GHG tax system should be
designed to be fiscally neutral through cuts to other taxes.”

Is $2 billion dollars enough to help support the world in combating the issue of climate change as far as the United States is concerned? Highly unlikely. While the amount is indeed a generous one, the world needs more than money to make a drastic turnaround from the impending disasters we find ourselves in.

Money is a good option to combat global warming but it is not the only recourse. President Bush has finally realized its threat and while the aid seems to be a good one, it just goes to show that the delays have made the issue grow from bad to worse. More has to be done and we are not only talking about money here.

“Still, $2 billion is a very small amount of money given the scale of the problem. China alone is investing over $100 billion a year through its state-owned enterprises in new energy projects and resources, mostly in oil and coal-fired electricity,” said Clapp.

The best way to understand the mechanics of global warming and its effect on us is to study other species, in this case bees. We can learn a lot from them like how the react to the environment to which they exist and how they keep their surroundings as ideal for their overall existence.

If we look at it, the way towards making sure out surroundings can be cared for is to understand them even from the smallest beings that exist in this world. Using them as a basis for comparison can surely help us find ways and come up with the necessary adjustments to make the whole global warming issue something that we can totally try and contain.

“Unless we know living things, how will we come to love them? Unless we learn to love them, we will not have the will to conserve, protect or sustain them. And to complete the argument, without them we will not exist.”

It is not a request. It is a requirement these days that we check out current lifestyles and evaluate if it is adhering towards the entire global warming issue. This is something we had coming to ask. Our continuous disregard for our planet and environment has brought us to a point where we have to be more sensitive on how we value it.

We have heard a lot of practices being made. Recycling, alternative sources of energy and fuel, and eco-friendly materials are the leading topics we hear when it comes to being more eco-friendly and trying to swing the favor to our side on the global warming threat.

Apparently we just have to look around and ask, what lifestyle changes have we made? If you haven’t done so, well it is about time that you start making some changes for all our sakes.

Britons are starting to change their lifestyles in response to global warming, but few are making the tough choices and in many cases the motivation is fear of punishment, according to a new survey.

Top of the list of environmental activities is recycling, with 90 percent of the people surveyed saying they were doing it more than a year ago.
