$12 to $15 per gallon of gas. Those are insane numbers, and all heck is going to break loose, if gallon prices went up that high. I shudder to think what will happen to the world as we know it. I hate to get all dramatic, but just think about it for a moment. It would cost most Americans like $200 bucks a week to fill up. That is simply not possible for many. I envision mass transit also being affected, as those who cant afford gas, would have to take buses and trains to get to and from work, etc.

Bike sales would go up, which is a positive. (for biker sellers) Hey, entreprenuer types, there is a fledging business idea for you. Start a bike business. Not the electric bike kind, just the regular old-fashioned human powered type bicycles.

The energy-friendly LED, Halogen, and CFL, are what they are to be replaced with. These are pricier (by a few dollars) but they also last much much longer and they will also save you moola in annual energy bills.

The incandescent lightbulbs are to be phased out over the next 10 to 12 years and no longer to be used. A tall task since Americans have been using the incandescents for over 125 years. But very doable.

I have found some inexpensive CFL’s at my local Walmart, they go for about $10 for a pack of 2 or 3. Their wattage is set up a bit differently too, a 13 watt CFL equals the same ouput as a traditional 60 watt incandescent. So look for the 13 watt packages.

PETA has released an e-card with Vick holding a ball and chain with a jail background, and we couldnt think of a more fitting background for the ex-football player. Michael Vick was recently sentenced to 23 months in jail for his dog crimes, and is or was in all sorts of trouble with the NFL.

Why did Vick choose to support, fund, and organize a dogfighting operation we will never know or fully understand, but atleast he was caught and will serve time for his bad choices.

PETA no stranger to controversy, sticks it to him, like only PETA can.

We often hear now of flooded regions and people left homeless. Just check out the mess Typhoon Mina left lately. There are even some people left due to mishaps of drowning or landslides. As a whole, the storms harassing us today are no joke and we have climate change to thank for it. They are for real and unless we are careful, we may find ourselves among the victims soon. It is best to be on alert and take precautionary measures before they even think of striking us.

The study has been going on at the University of Purdue and if all things fall into place, we may yet find a pollution-free energy zone.

It seems that there are a never ending number of processes for producing and storing hydrogen. This one, from Purdue University, stands out as one of the most promising. It potentially can create hydrogen on demand in a container small enough to be placed in a vehicle. It does produce byproducts that must be recycled, but there are standard, economical methods to do this. While referred to as a pollution-free energy source, that refers to the only to the process of producing hydrogen, some pollution would from the recycling process.

This goes on all over the world. No one is spared from following this kind of practice and sad to say, the victims in the end are the natural resources and the creatures, including man. The problem here is that everyone wants to be a step ahead and while the new development of companies and businesses are a given, they are unknowingly stepping on natural resources which are dying due to man’s continued ignorance.

The mountain range in Laoshou is no different because officials believed that the mountainside looked so ugly after quarrying that in order to make the area green they would just paint it.

The entire side of the mountain was sprayed green by a team of seven men, it took them forty five days to complete and it cost $56,000. However the smell was so intense that the villagers had to leave their homes.

Our sister blog Bedzine’s mattress store is open now. These are not the Keetsa mattress products that we will showcase on our blog soon but they are eco-friendly in the way that they are come in boxes. So customers can get it at our store and put it in the car or we ship it directly from our warehouses in LA and Chicago. The good thing is that there is no longer the big trip from the warehouse to the retail store then to the homes using an inefficient truck.

Such was the intent of the Kaua‘i Green Business Initiative awards, which aims to recognize people who have gone green and have benefited as well. There is no better way to realize the benefits of green living other than hearing testimonies from people who have given it a shot.

Here are some of the recipients for their efforts of living green:

Aloha We Deliver, Home Business category award for its biodegradable products.

Chino Godinez of Kayak Kaua‘i, Visitor Activity category for converting its fleet of vans to 100 percent diesel.

Ray Maki of Permaculture Kaua‘i, Grower category award for his efforts at restoring native species and soil.

Chipper Wichman of the National Tropical Botanical Gardens, Nonprofit category award for NTBG’s efforts at funding a green research building on its property.

Gabriel Zingaro of Blossoming Lotus, Restaurant category award for its green food service practices.
Chris Jaeb of Malama Kaua‘i, Entrepreneur award for creating a sustainable resource center.

While Beijing is attempting to reduce the pollution problem in time for the event, many are doubting the feasibility of choice for holding the event in Beijing to date. Containing the pollution problem at this point of time sounds a bit too late. But changing the venue of the Olympics may be a death wish of sorts as it will likely be cancelled due to lack of preparations. Of course this is a remote possibility.

Participating countries may opt not to participate if they feel that the environmental conditions governing Beijing at the moment are indeed becoming hazardous. However, don’t be surprised if you see various athletes wearing face masks to avoid inhaling health risk fumes once the Olympics commence.

There are about 100 brick kilns that fall in the Capital Development Authority’s (CDA) jurisdiction and for long their smoke-billowing towers have been a cause of concern for people.

Insect bites are often solicited in warm weathers and with the imminent downpour of climate change issues, the people are getting bit inch by bit by repulsive mosquitoes, parasites that make it irritating to remain comfortable at times. Check out this 10-minute meal:

O’Turkey burger scramble (O is for Organic!)
o 1 o-turkey burger (Heidi’s Hens) or 5 oz. ground turkey
o 1 Tablespoon vegetable oil
o 1 ripe o-tomato, diced
o 1 small o-onion, diced
o 1 clove o-garlic, diced
o Tablespoon dried o-oregano (or spices to your toodlies’ liking.)
o 1 cup cooked rice, pasta or mashed potato (all O)

Saute onion and garlic in veg oil for 1 minute. Break up turkey into 1-inch clumps and add to pan with tomatoes. Sprinkle in oregano. Saute until meat is well cooked and tomatoes have “fallen apart.” Mix with carb choice.

There are a lot of countries today such as Atlanta and Japan suffering intensely from the heat wave brought about by climate change. The heat is intense and the only soothing probability is to find something cool like drinks, air conditioning, or maybe a dip at the nearest swimming pool to hit the spot. Surely, these are welcome attributes that can more or less help people forget about the whole heat wave issue.

But while people are lambasting the global warming and climate change issue, the only thing that can perhaps calm them down is a solution. For now, the only solutions are those based on studies as advised to all of us by proper green authorities.

So the next time you see a hot head, don’t be surprised. It is all a chain of events starting from the hot weather which eats up the patience of most level-headed people today.

Such was the alternative solution that people in countries like the Philippines had done. All it took was to inform the proper groups and organizations of the growing trash problem in their area. While this may sound like a waste of time, nothing beats the fact of going green through information solicited from a single phone call.

“I live in Baclaran, Parañaque City. I love this place, but unfortunately, I am not too proud to be here because I see piles of garbage every day. When I pass by many streets in the neighborhood, I end up feeling disgusted, disappointed and embarrassed.

“Seeing that the local government has little to offer as a solution to the problem, my family decided to do something about it and help, even in a small way.

“Three years ago, we decided to form a group composed of youngsters who were willing to join us. It started as a small team engaged in cleanup activities every Sunday. After hearing Mass, my family and I gather the children and set out, brooms and all, to clean selected streets. By doing this, we help keep our neighborhood clean and hopefully, encourage others to do the same.

“We celebrated Earth Day last April 22 with a cleanup in the Muslim community in front of the Shrine of Our Lady of Perpetual Help (Baclaran Redemptorist Church), an area we had not visited before.

“We hope that encouraging activities like these will prove to be eye openers for people who do not seem to care. This way, we can show them that like everyone else, they should take an active part in caring for the environment.

They state that pig fat diesel is “cleaner than regular diesel, as it has lower levels of carbon dioxide, and zero sulfur”. As a vegetarian, i don’t support this new pig fat diesel, but am reporting it to inform on the measure.

Such is the experience of countries such as the Philippines. Dam levels are slowly diminishing and are not being replaced due to non-rainy days ahead. Cloud seeding has been resorted to, but it will take a lot of seeds to replenish the dilapidating water levels to date.

Weather forecasters have declared that no storm is in sight for the coming month hence a warning sign to which dry spells and water conservation must be practiced immediately. People call it the El Niño phenomenon and hopefully there will be enough water until the rainy seasons truly set in.
