This multi billion dollar building project is expected to deliver the first completed power station by the year 2017, with the most of the other being completed by 2025. This timetable will fall in line with the decommissioning of the UK’ coal fired and older nuclear power plants.

There will be around 4,000 of these “Batteries” built, which will be encased in concrete, transported to the site and buried, the “Drive”, will then be able to power up 25,000 for around five years.

So is this good or not so good, the jury is out!

However as the planet is nearly three quarters covered with water then perhaps it may be useful to use some of this, naturally there is the desalination which is really costly due to the fact that so much energy is required.

So here’s the great idea from Dr Verma, from SLIET Dept of Physics, his idea is simple, build floating nuclear reactors to not only provide power but will also be able to desalinate to sea water too, now this just cannot be a good idea.

A Ticking Ecology Bomb

Ecology is something that we all know through education and from current events. Taken as a whole, we only know of certain components such as global warming, greenhouse gases, pollution and climate change. The world is having a hard time focusing on only one of these areas.

Add to this that such concentration has not done any good. Progress has been slow and if this keeps up, another bomb similar to that atomic bomb that destroyed Japan some centuries ago will come back in the form of an ecological disaster which we have all been talking about.

We are all doing our part. But the efforts have not been realized. Hopefully people would realize that the issue may be green but it is not a laughing matter. We just have to thrive harder to meet goals and turn things around to avoid global disaster.

Nuclear War Games

The world is beset by an obvious world oil crisis contributed by a lot of factors. One is that the usual area where oil has been produced has been almost used up and the other involves that of being trapped inside a circle of war between two countries. Of course, these are Iran and the United States and if things are not ironed out soon, more than just an oil crisis is expected to suffice.

It is no secret that Iran has had some nuclear activities within its territories to try and get the upper hands for security risks surrounding its country. While this is being negotiated, the fact is that anything is possible when a country is found to be armed with potential nuclear weapons. Man will be a victim and most will be civilians.

So if you are worried about oil, this is just the cover of the whole area. There are far more scary possibilities and people will not be comfortable with the reality of nuclear holocaust over the horizon.

Where Unistar Nuclear, a collaboration between Constellation Energy and French company Areva hope to build a new plant at the Calvert Cliffs plant in Lusby.

Can nuclear power be eco friendly?

Naturally there are many groups dead against the building of any new nuclear plants, which is only reasonable as there is a fear of an accident like the ones at Chernobyl and Three Mile Island. Yet since those events safety has been the utmost priority in this industry and there have been no similar accidents.

One thing in favor of nuclear power is that the technology has advanced a long way, making an accident less likely, however there is the treat from terrorism these days, which is totally out of the hands of technology and any safety measures that are in place.

This is a serious issue and should not be taken lightly.

North and South Korea Summit 2007

North Korea and South Korea, a country divided sine 1953 is again coming together to discuss a lot of things. One of the probable things would be the highly publicized issue with regards to the nuclear testing of North Korea which has supposedly been stopped. Upon hearing of this development, the United Nations have closely been monitoring this alarming activity. And with North Korea being notoriously known for such war-based developments, it is not surprising why they are again in the midst of the controversy.

Of course this scheduled summit is being tagged as an exchange of development and strengthening of ties but while South Korea has not been on the controversial list as of late, this meeting between North Korea’s Kim Jong-il and South Korea’s Kim Dae-jung at Pyongyang , North Korea is being closely monitored and has been tagged a historic meeting from the divided country.

Some may like it while some may have apprehensions. But the purpose of the meeting is entirely professional. For sure, the nuclear issue will be on the agenda list.

At least that is what Tony Blair has been concluding. The conclusion derived by Blair is that Nuclear Power can cut carbon emissions. Let us take his side and agree. We may have solved the issue on carbon emissions on green living but we only added a new problem that of which is nuclear waste generation.

    In all, we only replaced the problem with another one, something perhaps more dangerous. Nuclear energy or waste has been something that has everyone panicking. Surely there is another way to go around the first problem right?
