6 Easy Tips for Going Green on the Road
There are easy and not so easy actions one can take to immediately begin living a more eco-centric life. One easy action we can put into play right away this summer is with our daily vehicle use, regardless of the make and model, here are 6 tips from The Environmental Protection Agency on how to turn your vehicle into a clean, green, eco machine.
- Take it easy on the accelator
For every 5 miles per hour you drive over 60 mph, it ’s like paying an additional 20 cents a gallon for gas.
- Use cruise control
On the highway enable the cruise control feature on your vehicle for best fuel management.
- Lighten your load
On a road trip take only what you need so the engine doesnt work as hard, and for minimal wind resistance, load your packing inside the car as opposed to the roof rack.
- Stay on top of maintenance
Did you know that a poorly working oxygen sensor, can affect your fuel economy by as much as 40% percent or that changing your air filter every 12,000 miles can improve gas mileage by as much as 10% percent, it pays to stay on top of your cars maintenance.
- Pump up your tires
Keeping your tires properly inflated plays a big role in maintaining good fuel economy. Check your vehicles manual for correct tire pressure levels.
- Cool it on the A/C
By using the economy or recirculation settings that most air conditioners come with, the amount of outside air that must be chilled is reduced. Both settings can minimize the air conditioners workload and saves on your gas supply.
Be sure to use these easy user friendly gas-saving tips on your next road trip and with the extra cash you will be saving, you will be smiling pretty at the beach this summer.
