Accommodation From Shipping Containers

by David Allen on Friday, November 14th, 2008

Looking around the docks of the world there is one thing that stands out and that would be the amount of shipping containers that are left lying around. Now these are mostly forty foot long and six or seven feet wide, if fact that is an ideal room size.

The Greentainer Project takes these containers and makes them into something wonderful, by removing the sides to put in glass and by replacing the floor with synthetic grass. All of sudden this dark and cold thing has become something bright and cheerful. Roof top solar panels have been fitted to provide power for lighting etc.

  • Very cool. Imagine what could really be done with an idea like this!! I'm thinking solar powered greenhouses. Sunlight all day, and solar powered lighting at night! Great idea.
