We often hear of companies being hit for taking eco-friendliness for granted and it seems that topping the list is Apple. Apple, best known for delivering the iPhone, iPod and the iPad has been the subject of criticism for being the least responsive among the dozens of technology companies applying some green.
Chinese environmental groups have been critical of Apple in the past, but the latest report underscores their growing outspokenness in a society where dissent is routinely suppressed by the authorities. Though dubbed environmentalists, their activism extends into other areas including worker rights.
For example, company workers from Wintek (a contractor) have been getting sick in China, workers who have been exposed to touch screens. In short, Apple seems to have overlooked this aspect. The report, in Chinese, was posted Thursday on the website of the Beijing-based Institute of Public and Environmental Affairs.
