B-Cycle: Like Redbox, But For Bikes

by Missy on Monday, August 17th, 2009

Do you have a 10-speed in the garage or basement collecting dust? If so, it might be time to dust that baby off.

Many companies are touting the environmental benefits of biking, along with the accompanying health benefits. And many companies are also noticing that a good chunk of the work force travels by car to work with only a 5 mile commute. That’s insane! It’s estimated that instead of driving those 5 miles, if you commute to work by bike it can help you shed as much as 13 pounds annually.

B-Cycle is a bike sharing program that aims to make it easy and affordable to rent a bike. Whether for commuting or for leisure, B-Cycle is planning to bring the bike back…as a regular mode of transportation.

You would be able to rent a bike very similar to the way you rent a video at RedBox. Sign-up as a member of B-Cycle then head over to one of the many automated kiosks placed in strategic locations around your city, and rent a bike using your CC. (a/k/a credit card)

Easy, affordable, convenient and planet-friendly. That’s the goal.
