The possibility of using bio fuels in the airline industry will make the industry more eco friendly as carbon emissions that are according to the UK Petroleum Industry Association. Biofuels are produced from biomass normally from vegetable matter, such as oils etc. The use of such biofuels could dramatically reduce the overall emissions from the airlines, however there is no viable biofuel suitable for the airline industry yet.

It is Virgin Atlantic who has decided to develop biofuels suitable for aircraft, and will be demonstrating how this will work next year with a demonstration flight using a Boeing 747-400; this will be the first worldwide commercial fight. This work is being carried out by a partnership of Boeing, Virgin Fuels and GE Aviation.
