Bio Plastics Trying to Carve Its Mark

Bioplastics

Alterative use of the normal packaging and plastic-related uses is something that has garnered a lot of criticism due to its point of origin. While most people are looking for alternative sources of fuel, there are groups trying to spread the word of the new wave of plastics in the form of bioplastics.Seen to cost more than the normal plastics that are key points towards making the whole essence of global warming a growing issue, bioplastics are considered to be a good replacement with lesser evils when it comes towards the whole issue of plastic’s role in contributing to the whole global warming mess we find ourselves in today.

Manufacturing bioplastics produces carbon dioxide, which many scientists have concluded contributes to global warming when released into the atmosphere. The materials are made from crops — corn, switchgrass, sugar cane, even sweet potatoes — that require land and water to grow, resources that could be used to produce food for consumption instead. Some sound alarms because genetically modified organisms are used to spur the fermentation that creates them.
