Buildings For When The Oceans Rise

by David Allen on Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

It has long been said that if we carry on in the manner that we have been doing, then it is likely that the sea levels will rise turning the earth into a real water world. Therefore, it is only natural that there should be some contingency plans put in place just in case this prophecy actually does come true.

Designers from New York have designed these temporary floating habitats, and they plan to launch the finished article sometime during 2009. These floating islands will be built from materials from junk yards, recycled wood, metal, plastic and fabric. They will get power from solar panels and wind turbines. They can also be connected to build communities if required.

  • The source link goes back to the original article which reviews their designs in much more detail.

Beautiful looking designs, but really chilling that anyone found the need to come up with a contingency plan such as this.
