Caring for Baby with Disposable Diaper Alternatives

Diapers will always be a demand for most parents today. They are badly needed to help assist babies in their daily bowel movements. But while that is only one aspect as far as hygiene is concerned, the matter of getting the best manufactured diapers to heed the comfort level of babies while at the same time is a good buy need to be considered.
Some of these diapers are even harmful the environment. While we could care less with every change of diapers for our babies, they contain toxins and chemicals which if not handled properly may become a growing concern.
According to the nonprofit organization, The Real Diaper Association, disposable diapers contain traces of dioxin, an extremely toxic byproduct of the paper-bleaching process. It is a carcinogenic chemical, listed by the Environmental Protection Agency as the most toxic of all cancer-linked chemicals.
Disposables also contain tributyltin, a toxic pollutant known to cause hormonal problems in humans and animals, and sodium polyacrylate, a type of super-absorbent polymer that becomes a gel-like substance when wet. A similar substance had been used in super-absorbent tampons until the early 1980s when it was revealed that the material increased the risk of toxic shock syndrome.
Another environmental impact of disposable diapers is the unknown factor of how long it takes for a disposable diaper to decompose, estimated to be about 250 to 500 years. More than 92 percent of disposable diapers end up in landfills.
