Copenhagen Gets Introduced To Smart Biking

by David Allen on Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

One of the most beautiful cities in Europe, Copenhagen will be getting the opportunity to see how good using a bike can be and it is not just for the planet, it’s good for humans too. The bikes have been tagged in order to see their movements around the city and to make sure that they are not stolen.

The city is going to be a real life laboratory for the SmartBiking project by MIT. The bikes are fitted with a small but lightweight lithium battery, which is charged up every time the brakes are used; this is known as regenerative braking which can be seen on some cars these days. This stored energy helps the rider get started again after they had come to a stop.
