Disney Launches First Earth Film

by Brian Yalung on Wednesday, March 11th, 2009

Walt Disney has announced the first earth film under their Disneynature Films label, Earth. The launch of the said film is right on time for Earth Day on April 22, 2009. The family-friendly 90-minute documentary film follows the life of three animal families as they move around the world.

The stars of the film are families of polar bears, humpback whales and elephants. The film took an estimated 2,000 days to shoot in more than 200 locations around the globe.

The movie is a joint project between Disney and the successful BBC TV series Planet Earth. Alastair Fothergill, director of the BBC TV series is also co-director, along with Mark Linfield, of the Disney Earth film. “The film has a very strong environmental message” .

As a fan of the Planet Earth series, I am stoked to see Disney come out with something on the same level. I love the idea of following animal families- that engages both kids and adults. My only worry is that Disney will subdue an overall environmental message to make the film more appealing to the general population. Whatever the end product is, I will definitely watch it!
  • i commend Disney for undertaking the project, but have reservations until i see the final cut next week. we'll let you know...
