Eco friendly light bulbs in mercury scare
We are told that we should be changing over all of our light bulbs to the eco friendly types that use less electricity and last for years. This both saves money by using less electricity and therefore helping to save the planet, well that is the theory.
However according to research the light bulbs contain a small amount of mercury, which will know is seriously dangerous. There is no danger while the light bulb is in use, but should it break extreme caution should be taken in how you tidy the mess up.
It is advisable that you sweep the glass up, an do not use the vacuum cleaner as this can allow the tiny particles of mercury to get airborne and then breathed in by anyone in the room. The amount of mercury in each light bulb is very small, but as with anything like this, caution is better than speed.
