Eco Friendly Picnics

by David Allen on Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

Eating outside is great during the warm weather, but unfortunately you are normally faced with the problem of plastic plates and cups, these are usually no good for recycling and so takes the edge off of the whole eating outside experience.

However, thanks to the Solo Cup Company, there is now an alternative to these products. Solo Bare is the trade name that they call their product line of cups and plates. These are made from twenty per cent post consumer recycled polyethylene (PET) which is ideal for this type of product.

  • There is also an option to buy disposable plates made of Bamboo!
Added advantages are it's a lot stronger and it is completely eco-friendly.

I am glad that the disposable market is starting to be more green-minded. While its cheaper, I still can't understand why styrofoam products are still made and used! I love being outside and visiting parks, trails, and beaches, but it breaks my heart every time I go for a jaunt in the woods or the beach expecting clean, unadulterated nature only to find styrofoam and plastic floating around, clogging up the earth with its poisonous gasses. Way to go solo! Nest step- 100% recycled!

Much better to use this, lots of advantages! Thanks a lot.

How "green" are these products really? How much energy is wasted by manufacturing a plate or cup that can only be used once?!?! Why not buy a cup or plate that you can use more than once? We are all smart enough to figure out the "spin" by a marketing department....
