Technology moves at the speed of light and whether you’re ready or not, it comes your way. And with that warped speed comes innovation, in the form of eco friendly and or sustainable products. There’s a whole lot more than four innovative eco friendly technologies, but below we highlight what we believe is the cream of the crop for now.
Agree? Disagree? Tell us in the comment area.
The iPhone – The wonder and magic of this little technological device, is that it’s SO MUCH MORE than a cell phone. It’s a multi-purpose device that when coupled with a slew of apps, extends its functionality and makes it a powerhouse tool. Want to check on availability or prices of organic produce near you? The iPhone easily allows for this via an app. Curious as to how much of a carbon footprint you’re car is spitting out? Just install the app which calculates this for you. And the list goes on and on. A great example of eco friendly tech at its best.
GPS -When you’re driving around for miles or even blocks looking for your destination, you’re spewing emissions and using up gas. A GPS unit exists for one reason and that is to get you where you’re going, in the least amount of time possible or shortest route possible. If used correctly and regularly, a GPS unit can lower overall vehicle related emissions.
Laptops – By definition, most laptops are eco friendly compared to their desktop counterparts, and with today’s new line of laptops they’re more eco friendly than ever. They also use less energy and require less emissions to produce than a traditional desktop pc. Moreover many manufacturers use recycled parts to assemble new models.
Ebook Readers – It’s no secret that the new wave of ebook readers are environmentally friendly. They use no paper, require no shipping of books, and countless titles can be added and carried around for business or enjoyment. Many ebook reader manufacturers create digital readers using recycled and or sustainable materials, and or employ low maintenance manufacturing methods.
It’s been debated here and here, whether ebook readers such as the Amazon Kindle are indeed GREEN or if it’s merely another high tech power-hungry piece of machinery? As I’ve mentioned before in previous articles, everything has a pro and a con, including technology, and as such, will always be up for debate.
