Ecopods For The End
The Natural Death Centre in London, shows that 89% of coffins used every year, are made from chipbaord covered with laminate, which can take many years to biodegrade. Living a green and eco friendly life means examining the various areas in our lives that could be more earth friendly and more sustainable. But what happens when we pass on, how do we carry our values with us, till the very end?
Why not go out in total eco friendly style with a low impact coffin. One such option is the Ecopod, which is the creation of Canadian Hazel Selina, who was involved for years with natural birth, and after a dear friend became ill, plus her interest in all things Egypt and ecology, she got to thinking of the idea and ARKA Ecopod Limited was born in May of 2006.
Ecopods, are eco friendly caskets made from 100% recycled paper and covered with handmade silk-screened paper. The low-impact coffin took over 9 years to develop and be designed. The gold leaf pod, which is their premium casket, is lined with feathers, so we say NO to that one. The shape of the Ecopod is seed like and for the creator it signifies a seed being put into the earth.
