Start Using the Compact Fluorescents

CFL Bulbs

Right now, we just view these CFL bulbs as something that can provide a different ray of light and of course save us in terms of electricity costs. But to be honest, there is something more to them than just these things. They help in contributing towards wasted electricity and also contribute towards the proper disposal of waste as far as worn out bulbs are concerned.

Look beyond the beauty and the cost. There is a reason for these compact fluorescent bulbs being developed. We just need to put that into our way of thinking.

Let’s look at that one disadvantage. Lighting accounts for approximately 17 percent of residential electricity use, approximately $8 billion per year in consumers’ electric bills. The environmental impact is also significant: 3 percent of all U.S. carbon dioxide emissions, 4 percent of all sulfur dioxide, and 2 percent of nitrous oxide, elements of the greenhouse gases that cause global warming. CFLs could reduce electricity use attributed to lighting by 50-75 percent.
