Europe’s first Bio Diesel Train
Richard Branson’s Virgin railways is to become the first passenger train to run engines powered by bio diesel, the Virgin Voyager train will use the blended fuel which is only 20% bio diesel and is due to leave London today and travel to Llandudno in Wales, but during the trials the train will travel all over the country.
If this works our, and there is no reason why it should not then it is possible that all of the Voyager fleet will be using the 20% blend, which does not seem a lot, but they estimate that they could cut emissions by up to 14% which if calculated over the fleet is the same as taking 23,000 cars off the road.
Once established the bio diesel could be increased to 100% and this would relate to taking 100,000 cars off of the road, these are incredible figures and if all train companies around the adopted this type of fuel then just think of the impact on Co2 emissions.
