Great alternative to granite work tops
Granite work tops look fantastic in the kitchen, because once polished the granite shows off the wonderful colours that would have remained hidden. But there are some disadvantages too, like the fact that it not sustainable and there are transport issues, so although it is natural, producing a nice piece for the kitchen has costs involved.
But as always there is an alternative and you may be surprised at what it is! This great product is concrete, yes the stuff that they pour out of the back of a truck. The fact is concrete produces the same finish as granite, it can be poured into a mould which will give some great shapes and because concrete is made from limestone it is much more sustainable.
Surprisingly concrete is probably the same in price as granite, so there will not be much of a saving in money, but the real saving is to the planet.
