Green Your Accessories!
TreeHugger has 10 – no, make it 13 — great tips to go green with your fashion accessories. The tips are so great that you can apply them to all aspects of your life, not just your fashion sense! I’ll give you the brief run-down of a couple of them here and if you are interested in knowing more, check out the Treehugger article for itself!
#6: Go Vintage
Its’ hip, it’s cool and it’s green! Instead of going for broke at a fancy jewellers, check out your local consignment shop or antique store. You’ll be green and one-of-a-kind!
#5: Go Sustainable! Or Recycled! Or Fair-Trade! Or All Three!
The same goes for sustainable varieties! Check out sustainably-made goods or recycled bracelets. I found these bracelets once made of Archie Comics. I didn’t buy them, and I still it. Don’t make the same mistake I made.
#4:Beg or Borrow
I have two sisters. If we really thought about it growing up, we could have tripled our wardrobe instead of hoarding our goods. Why can’t this mentality spread to our friends? I mean the share and share alike one, not the rivalry for rivalry’s sake!
#3: Take Care of Your Stuff!
It seems simple enough, but if you don’t break or lose what you have, it will last a long time!
#2: Buy Local
I’m a big advocate of supporting local stores and local artists. If you do it too, your goods will be more likely to be unique and high quality. And there’s a bonus: you don’t have to exhibit yourself to the rush of the mall.
#1: Do-It-Yourself
Find your inner designer and make your own! The experience and sentimental value alone are worth the experience. If you don’t trust your creative side, sing up for classes at the local art school or community college. You’ll learn a new skill, meet some new friends, and get some compliment-worthy jewellery in the process.
TreeHugger has tons more tips and tricks. It’s an absolutely fantastic site (where do you think I swipe all my ideas from?!) and I fully suggest that you check it out for yourself!
