Have an Eco-Friendly Palm Sunday
In preparation for Lent, Palm Sunday is two days away. Normally, it is customary for Christians to buy Palm leaves, have them blessed and then placed in front of their homes. While this has been a tradition for some time now, fianlly an eco-friendly alternative seems to be available in celebration of Palm Sunday.
Eco-friendly palms, or green palms, are harvested in ways that take into consideration the sustainability of the forest they’re being removed from. The palms also have a fair-trade element – they provide more profit for the farmers who harvest them.
Eco-palms do cost more than conventionally harvested fronds, but churches who use them, including University Lutheran Church of the Epiphany in St. Cloud, Minn., say it’s worth the extra money to know they’re being better stewards of the environment.
