How To Celebrate Ebook Week
Did you know March 8th through March 13th, 2009 is ebook week? Yes, this week is all about reading in an ebook format.
I recently read that by the end of this year the word (ebook) will be a household name. It is already a pretty common word ever since the new Kindle came out just a few months ago. The Kindle is an electronic reader (a/k/a ebook reader) put out by the guys and gals from Amazon.
The Kindle is considered a dedicated reader, which means reading books on it is it’s single purpose. Unlike a netbook, which is a laptop but could be used as an ebook reader. Then there is also the new iPhone Kindle app which came out just last week which allows for reading books on the Apple cell phone, no Kindle required. This is major, because it means that distribution just got a whole lot bigger. The Kindle is pricey hovering at around $300, but having ebook reading access on a cell phone makes it accessible to a whole lot more people.
I found an article today which details 30 cool benefits of an ebook. In honor of ebook week many authors are giving away free e versions of their books. Find a free ebook to add to your collection.
Ebook Reader Vs. Paper Books?
In my opinion, there is plenty of room for both ebook readers and paper books, as both serve a different audience. Some like the storage capacity of an ebook reader, while others like the cool features that an ebook reader has such as search, highlighting, etc. While with paper books, people really really really LOVE the feel of holding the piece in their hands, passing along a great volume of work to a friend, and digesting photos in paper form, etc.
