How To Green Your Home Office
Do you work from home? Do you occasionally telecommute for your job? If so let’s take a look at a few ideas on how to save some wattage and green up our home office.
Go Paperless
It might be almost impossible to go completely paperless, but try to think of how you can save on paper usage. You can convert important files into PDF versions and store them in your PC. Converting many office paperwork to digital format can usually be done with the click of a button. Here is a good guide on making PDF’s.
Use A Double-Sided Printer
According to recent research, printing on both sides of 100 sheets of paper (a/k/a ream) can help to save 2 trees and one cubic meter of landfill space. So use that awesome feature found on many printers. If yours currently doesn’t support this, next time you’re shopping for a printer, plan your purchase and look for a printer that has the double-sided feature.
Use An LCD Computer Monitor
It uses less power than a CRT monitor, and will conserve energy. Not too mention lower your monthly power bill. You can also save more electricity by turning off your PC when it’s not in use.
Use A Power Strip
Try using a power strip and turn that off instead of your PC, laptop, printer, fax, copier, etc to save some major wattage. Here is an awesome list of 10 cool power strips. Neat thing is power strips are usually quite inexpensive, so this is one idea just about anyone can implement right away.
There are all small changes but they can produce BIG results if you practice them.
