ibuyeco: The Green Car Insurance

by erin on Monday, June 4th, 2007

ibuyeco, the world’s first green car insurance, is being launched tomorrow on World Environment Day. ibuyeco promises consumers 100% carbon free car insurance by “making it easy” for car owners to off-set their own carbon emissions.

ibuy eco works like this: based on the type of vehicle you have and the estimated mileage you drive, ibuyeco calculates your potential emissions. Then they include an additional fee on your car insurance which will be put toward off-setting your emissions by donating it to one of The CarbonNeutral Company‘s many products.

While it may seem like an easy way to make a donation, sources claim that ibuyeco provides consumers with a competitive car insurance option, and people can actually save money!

Currently, ibuyeco is only available in the UK, but hopefully something similar will hit my side of the pond. If I ever buy a car!
