Is An RV In Your Future? Here's 3 Tips To Green
Do you dream of long and scenic trips along American roadways via an RV?
This is the dream of many would-be travelers and architect buffs, but how green is an average RV? Not very. These behemoths on wheels are gas-hungry machines that yield a super low mpg. The average RV nets only about 8 to 10 gallons a mile. Ouch! Definitely not for the faint of heart.
But as is pointed out in this article, there are some things you can do to make an RV trip or cross-country American road adventure, more fuel-efficient.
1. Try a diesel-powered RV model such as the BioTrekker, which is powered by the more fuel efficient and less costly biodiesel.
2. Convert an existing model to biodiesel via a kit. Biodiesel kits can be found online or via a green RV dealer.
Q: Don’t you need a special biodiesel engine to run it?
A: No. B100 (100 percent biodiesel) will run in most diesel engines with little or no modifications. B20 (20 percent biodiesel) will run in any diesel engine without modifications. I’ll soon be providing a comprehensive list of diesel vehicles in the U.S. that are candidates for biodiesel.
3. Power up using solar or wind energy. I’ve seen many an RV with a wind turbine attached which presumably could power up a variety of electronics including a laptop, tv, cell phones, etc.
RV’s are a great way to view America without having to rent a hotel room or any type of lodging, but they do take a toll via huge fuel bills. Fortunately more and more services and products are cropping up which facilitate greener RV’ing.
Look into the various options available and cut or reduce your fuel costs by considering biodiesel into your big travel rig.
